I have created a new user group here on the EnviroLink Forum called "EnviroLink Volunteers". The members of this group have the ability to moderate the boards. I have added two users to this group: Sandra John and Wayne Stollings.
EnviroLink Volunteers have the following "powers":
1) Edit, Delete, Move, Lock or "Split" (something I've never used, actually) individual postings or topics
2) Recommend to me users for banning or other disciplinary action. They do not have the ability to ban users themselves. Those decisions will be left up to me.
3) See the IP addresses that any user posts from
EnviroLink Volunteers are expected to continue participating in the Forum as they normally would, but help keep things in line. They are going to actively help keep the tone civil around here by warning users directly, helping to change the course of specific threads, and deleting postings that are problems, etc.. They will also be reporting to me any serious violations that might require further action (such as deleting/banning users). EnviroLink Volunteers will be helping me create and enforce the policies of this Forum, in order to make it a better place.
I do not expect our Volunteers to be perfect (no one is), but they are certainly supposed to set a good example for other users in their behavior. If you feel that an EnviroLink Volunteer really is abusing their powers, I want to hear about it. You can contact me directly through the private messaging system or post your complaint publicly to the Feedback area of the Forum.
I will be looking for more Volunteers soon, and users who are a positive presence here (ie: help keep things civil, recruit new members, and help new users) will be prime candidates for being promoted to Volunteer status.
Thanks to everyone who participated in this process. I hope that the EnviroLink Forum will become even better as a result of these actions. Please do let us know how we're doing and what we can do better.
