Lemmings, when the population gets too high to be sustainable, have some individuals become vicious and chase everybody away. The displaced lemmings have nowhere to go but more claimed territory by more vicious lemmings. This results in a migration forming and a good portion of the lemmings heading off until they find a peaceful place to settle down in. Earth is becoming over-populated by humans to the point of being unsustainable. My idea is of a refugee-space-ship being made for all the displaced to leave the planet seeking new worlds to inhabit... or to colonize space itself within the sun's orbit. The story can be developed from the steps that occurred leading up to the departure or that story can be slowly revealed during the story of how the pilgrims deal with their new predicament.

What general sort of people are these 'drive-offs'? Are we talking a planet that takes on a sorta of Australia populated by convicts setting?
