I must complain that the recent posts by SPIN I find to be beyond distasteful. They are slanderous assertions and hateful propaganda and degrade this forum. These assertions go beyond the normal opinion-making. This forum is serving as a stage for this persons unsubstantiated claims and hatefilled propadanda.

Isn't there some forum rules about such posts that can not be backed up? each post slanders the people of Newfoundland, Canada, in general, and specific public figures. The latest one is a claim that Hon. Loyola Hearn called Bridgitte Bardot a slut. And, it is unsubstantiated. Such slanderous claims that can not be backed up should be removed.

it adds nothing to the debate about the issues, only adds hate .

But that is so obvious, and such a good job of exposing it is being done by yourself and others, that I think the call for censorship is counter-productive.

RF makes a good point, but one can not be on deck 24-7 routing out liars and hatemongers, which is how they operate with any success, you just can't stop them all...

those who swayed that easily by that crap are either #1 a liar themself or #2 weak minded enough to be swayed into worshipping a carrot placed on their coffee table too.

Thank you..though some would have that a good RF point is at least an improbability.

But also consider in light of "one can not be on deck 24-7 routing out liars and hatemongers." In exposing them, and illustrating the fallacy and deception of hateful propaganda....isn't it a greater service that you are perhaps teaching others to at least recognize hateful propaganda? That the purveyor of propaganda is serving better as illustration, when that purveyor is allowed to be visible?

And so, even if you are not "on deck 24-7", perhaps someone who benefitted from the illustration will be?

Those are some excellent points, RF.

Don't worry about it, dog breath. Few lies go unnoticed around here. This is a rather sharp bunch that keeps an eye on that sort of thing.

This is a bit outside the guidelines of the forum rules in requiring documentation of opinion. While support is better there are no rules that would require it. It falls back on the poster to either follow the generally accepted debate form or suffer the lack of credibility that may follow. This is more easily dealt with by the forum posters themsleves where those posters with lessened credibility also have lessened responses and fewer detailed replies.

If we were to use this criteria for banning people or otherwise censoring speech here, almost everyone would be gone. There's always going to be someone who thinks that they have been wronged, that a fact is not right, or that an assertion is offensive. We apply generally accepted principles of what is "acceptable" in a community like this and try to keep out things like porn, blatant attacks on other members, etc.

If it is written, it can only be considered libelous. Slander is spoken. There is much more to libel than just writing something that is not true about another. No one here is qualified to make that distinction and I'm not going to try. A person who feels they have been libelled has lots of legal recourse that they can try to pursue... I'd rather leave it to the courts to decide.

In case anyone is concerned over a libel claim, which can arise in some cases.
