IMO everyone involved got a little touchy and tried to flex a bit....AL went overboard on the moderating, but others went overboard the other way with the sarcasm and constant referrals to it. As I posted elsewhere , everyone knows what is acceptable and as adults we shouldn't need supervisors to oversee our behaviour.

I agree with you Steve (May I call you that ?).
However, sarcasm is to be expected when one has things to get off of chests...no rude comments please.
Personally, I think sarcasm can be witty and amusing and often gives rise to another comment to make me smile.
I do think the 'F' word should be banned, but that is my opinion for what it is worth.
My sons have always known what to expect if they ever used that word...and never have in my presence.

Okay, my two cents worth is that the editing was getting extremely excessive - I mean, "pissed off" is something most people say, isn't it? I couldn't say ticked off without feeling like a complete idiot - I don't talk that way. Is there no middle ground here?

As I stated earlier the rule of thumb I use is what would I want my younger children reading on the board. I do not want to have to monitor the language any more closely than you want to be monitored,

When I joined this forum I was a little bit annoyed at the frequent use of the word ' ass ', but got used to it. The word is used over here in the context of ' silly ass ' which likens the person to the donkey...ie foolish.
Personally, the words I take great exception to are the 'F' word, Liar and bitch referring to a female human.

On the whole, I find this forum quite mild as to the everyday language witnessed in Public Houses when men get talking together.


As this is not a Public House where men get together talking it should be much more mild, should it not.

Perhaps due to topic content as much as anything else, why can't you bar access to " school kids " ?
I thought this was supposed to be for adult discussions after all !

Why do parents allow access to forums anyway ? Surely they realise that some subjects are not suitable !

Have we got to discuss only suitable topics now such as the weather and the price of shrimp ?

I think that if the excessive use of such language by some is toned down and not used in a way that is directed at someone or their behavior, whether they are members of this board or not, that will solve the majority of the problem, as that would negate the use of some of the offensive words in question. As for the rest, I agree that everyone should know what is and is not apropriate as most have not had prior issue with this in the past.

See, I have a small problem with that. Is it just me, or does anyone else not want to have to worry that what they say may not be acceptable for the "kiddies"? This is a forum for adults, isn't it? I mean, common courtesy is fine, but beyond that, you guys are starting to scare me.

I think you will find that youngsters use similar or worse language than found on this forum.
They will certainly learn that it is ok to use guns and to kill animals, also the cruelty of humans to each other and to animals. A few bad words pale into insignificance IMO.


The next thing on the agenda may be banning poor grammar and bad spelling ?
