Why not? Don't I have a right to ask how rules are going to be enforced? And you'd better go back and fix Wayne's post.

These rules will be enforced as any of the other rules are enforced in the past.

The reason I did not edit it was because they were not swear words and you went too far, with first the interjection in the thread and the PM. I would understand if it WERE a swear word. But it was not. Unless you're friggin Amish.

Enjoy your new-found powers.

I didn't make these rules. They were made before my new found powers which I have tried not to use in this matter. As for my interjection and my PM, I tried really hard to ask you nicely to edit you posts so that I would not have to make it official. But of course you wouldn't see that. You have put me in the position to handle this officially. It was totally your choice.

So here is the deal. Curb the language starting right now or it will be handled officially starting now.

Again, you're over doing it. What will happen when OHIOSTEVE refers to his dog as a bitch? Now we can't say Life's a Bitch and Then you Die here, right? Talking like this is normal. Calling someone a bitch is not. I can agree with that. But I will never agree with your decision to edit what you perceive to be a swear word for BUTTOCKS. Acting like a smartbuttocks, calling ATT workers Buttockclowns - ridiculous! And in the past, Wayne would not have edited that word. You, however, are overextending your powers. And I don't expect the other mods to defend me here, because that would not make you look good days into your new role.

No, I would not have edited it in the past, however, you and others were continually pushing the limits of what we "let slide". The message I got from Josh was these are the rules, here is a new mod, enforce them as they are written (intended for those with a penchant for creative interpretations) from this point on. I assume everyone else got the same or similar message from him. I know if he got half the number of complaints over language I did he was not pleased with it and when they start showing up in the threads more often something had to be done and it was. You can follow the rules or not, it is your choice and your choice alone.

Just for the record, a female dog is a b-word and if used in the proper context would not be an issue for a newbie. However, we would expect an older established poster who knows this could be an issue avoded by just saying female instead to make things simpler by making the change. The same goes for the creative titles/sayings Siber liked to use in relation to the cockfighting threads which generated some confusion with other less appropriate terms. So when in doubt err on the side of caustion and make everyone's life that much easier.

I suggest that you not worry about Steve. He's a big boy and if he has an issue he can handle it.
You may file a complaint with Josh if you wish or any of the other mods. I decided to handle this in an attempt not to make it official. If one of the other mods would have handled it, it would have been official from the get go. So the whole conspiracy thing is not applicable although expected. Comply or not it is your choice but then you cannot blame anyone but yourself for the consequenses.

In case you need a reference on the subject .... if the dictionary has it listed as VULGAR, it probably is not a good choice of words, yes there are other definitions which are not listed as vulgar, but there are proper contexts which require their use and this was not one of those contexts.

Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.1) - Cite This Source - Share This
ass2 /æs/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[as] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun Vulgar. 1. the buttocks.
2. the rectum.
3. Slang. sexual intercourse.

But this was not pushing the limits. And should not have been edited. Saying someone was acting like a smartass, or calling AT&T staff assclowns is not pushing the limits. Will never agree on that one.

Are you speaking figuratively? Or he actually PM'd people? As I got no message - either way.

Fine. To be clear:

An exerpt from the rules:

Members should post in a way that is respectful of other users

(just for the record, in this case, ATT is not other users. Saying OHIOSTEVE was acting like a smartass would be disrespectful. Same as him first saying I was full of crap, right? Or is that ok? Saying someone is full of crap?)..

Typical back and forth on the issues is expected and encouraged. But, please discuss the issues in a way that that is respectful to others. Differences of opinion are fine, but please agree to disagree in order to avoid flame wars. No personal attacks, no vendettas and no detrimental venting will be tolerated

So this would apply to my vents against animal abusers, correct?

... and efforts should be made to avoid stereotyping other users.

And this would apply to the continual shrimp subject coming up and OHIOSTEVE's grouping people here against animal fighting and animal use as anti's, humaniacs, and the like, and me ranting against those Chinese who bash dogs..oh wait that would be ok since they're not other users here. Or is it not ok? As that might fall under detrimental venting. Correct?

If you're going to enforce the rules, you'll need to be consistent. I'm sure animal lover will be quite busy..

They would NOT have edited it. And I don't blame anyone but you. I have no problem whatsoever with legitimate warnings official or unofficial, as I've had them before and understood/apologized [to Wayne] or said "noted".

And, you keep insisting you didn't act "officially" but pg 2, publicly, coming from a MOD, was official.

Grace, Watch the language. Please edit to correct. Read your PM

Again, if it were a curse word, I would have not resisted and complied. You reacted excessively. Period.

Keeping the off-topic thread going.......

What exactly are you going to ban ?

a) Swear words such as damn and other curses

b) Slang such as the 'F' word

c) Words with more than one meaning other than the acceptable eg bitch

d) Insulting/libellous eg Liar

e) Ass, as pertaining to the end of the alimentary canal

f) Or any word you don't like the sound of

:?:

Maybe we ought to find some foreign words...like Dorfdumkopf (spelling ?) , schweinhund etc... ?

When I joined this forum I was a little bit annoyed at the frequent use of the word ' ass ', but got used to it. The word is used over here in the context of ' silly ass ' which likens the person to the donkey...ie foolish.
Personally, the words I take great exception to are the 'F' word, Liar and bitch referring to a female human.

On the whole, I find this forum quite mild as to the everyday language witnessed in Public Houses when men get talking together.

You moderators certainly have your jobs cut out, but for goodness sake don't let this forum become one for namby-pambies or the Politically correct factions.

Of course you blame me, at this point I expect no less.
First of all I sent the PM to you prior to saying anything on the board which was in reference to the other thread. I had no choice but to say something on the board first because you didn't check/read your PM and because you continued swearing once you came onto this thread.

Again, I gave you the opportunity to comply. And as of yet I have taken no official action with your continued use of such words during this discussion. So no I have not acted or reacted excessively.

The words in question are an issue and whether you accept that they are considered swear words or not is of no relevence at this point. They are not appropriate for a family friendly board and they are offensive to some.

And yes the other Mods would have had to address this issue.

The voice of reason, as usual. That's what I'm afraid of. I've got one foot out the door, just in case. Not a threat, but not my bag if that's what it's to become.

Somewhere on the Internet there must be forums......polite but adult and interesting. I think I'll have a look when I've time.

Get both your feet in my door Grace and we'll share a pot of tea or coffee and a couple of fresh cream cakes !

Just a thought re. double meanings...

If the word 'bitch ' is banned you must also ban the words 'dog' , pig , cow etc.
