Now if they could reduce fossil fuel use in all ways by 90% and halve their population by deporting illegals and anchor babies along with other effective population quality and quantity control measures, all in as short a time as possible, they will be leaders in what has to be done to save the biosphere.

Mr. Voorman must still have a bunch of extra books on hand to keep advertising it for sale here. The book actually takes place in the late 1980s!!!!
One problem with collecting all the cow pies is the energy used, and the fact that it should be composted back into soil for the grass they eat---in a natural system. Net soil depletion occurs when methane digesters are used.
The amount of methane from cows is dwarfed by something that was not happening in the 1980s---tundra methane releases. The Russians tried trapping it for fuel, unsuccessfully, because of the huge area involved.
It is true that CH4, during its 15 year life in the atmosphere, has over 20 times the heat trapping power of an equal amount of CO2. Still it breaks down or burns into Co2 and H2O (another net heat trapping effect).
It was reported that the amount of tundra methane released is increasing and thought to be at the tipping point of self release without further human caused CO2 warming. Others say that even with a total stop of hGHGs, it would be 40 years before the full effect of warming from what is already in the atmosphere was felt. There is also the lag to oceanic warming at the depth of more methane hydrate deposits.
http://www.independent.co.uk/environmen ... 06484.htmlIt would be nice to go back to the 1980s before AGW was proved true and measured. Back to when California was still the real USA and the population 1/3 less, and when Van Halen were still huge. That is where the book takes you.

Back to when it was thought that methane digesters would make a difference to total HGHG output, and the soil depletion was not seen except by a few environmentalists.
Still, the fight goes on to reduce HGHGs enough to mitigate AGW and perhaps limit tundra methane releases. To reduce population significantly through "family planning", to help reduce demands for energy, food, and water, and stop pollution and begin its cleanup. Anyone against doing these things is still the "bad guy", and 22 years after the book, the bad guys are winning. The tundras are near or at the point of self release, the population is too large not to crash, world's soils have lost another 2", and water significantly degraded and depleted.
The burning of fossil fuels has increased close to 50% since the book............and there are another 2 billion people!!!!
