This show was on last night, with a group of experts and what they thought would happen and the most pressing problems facing the USA. The consensus was that economic hardship from a variety of economic mistakes would hit first, then water scarcity, with overpopulation effects driving the problems and being next , then pollution effects, especially with climate change. Collapse was inevitable, but there was a general feeling that survivors would help one another.
Did anyone else watch the program? What are your thoughts on a plan of action to stop the collapse of our country? :-k

Hi, I saw Prophets Of Doom.
I agree with their outlook. I think that the collapse of our way of life is inevitable and it's already started. Peak oil - which many laughed off just a short time ago - is now being discussed openly by governments and military. There is nothing (to my knowledge) in the works that could replace oil and keep the modern world chugging along. The global economy depends on infinite growth and on a planet with finite resources that is just not going to happen.

Have you seen the lecture by Prof Albert Bartlett on exponential growth? It's well worth watching.

I think it is essential to have a long moratorium on immigration and to enforce the immigration laws with all fines collected from illegals ($5-10K) and those who have aided, abetted, or encouraged them($5K for each illegal, i.e. x 30M). This would pay off our National Debt and reduce population 30 million by deportations. Out of work Americans could then be employed.
Still, that would only be a start toward sustainability. Going to nearly all low CO2 power (power plants to independent homes and smaller grids, hybrid, bio-diesel, and electric vehicles/transportation, equipment), increased cottage/home farming, increased composting and water efficiency/recycling. Stopping most foreign trade, and increased taxes for those with more than one child, along with permits required to have children for married couples with 105 IQ or higher and no genetic defects, enforced strictly with sterilizations. A return of the draft and decrease in Federal pay of 10%, would help stop deficit spending and increase the work ethic and patriotism to what it once was. Increasing the death penalty to all three time thieves on up would save money, seeing recidivism is so high after that, and also help reduce population to sustainable long term. These things would prevent the eco-collapse of America.

Here is a great Earthship video with links to many others;

"We need a billion of these, now!" Mike Reynolds
To me, eco homes must have as many of these characteristics as possible;
1)Low wood use, 2)a lot of thermal mass,3) use of indigenous materials,4) solar thermal gain, 5)solar power and/or wind power, 6)water catchment and/or recycling/minimal use,7) use of recycled materials, 8)super insulation and 9) interior year around gardens that grow food.
The Earthship is the "Holy Grail" of eco-homes because it can have all 9 characteristics. Others can be designed to have all nine also, like straw bale homes with trombe walls and interior gardens. An A frame could have up to 7 out of 9, and a dome maybe up to 6 out of 9 with difficulty.

I saw the program as well. People are abusing the rights they have, mainly but not limited to having children. I dare say your proposal based on IQ be revised such that those under 120, perhaps 130, not be allowed to procreate. In the future, I'll be really interested to see what happens to those who today smoke, drink, and consume themselves into a state of such pathetic health (yet more rights abused) they become slaves to establishment med-pharma and/or worse yet, entitlement-minded morons.

Hello Electro ... Johnny .... I read you because you have an opinion and something to say, usually. I see that you want to know what is happening around the world and also what is happening for you. Ultimately what is happening for you is what is happening .... everywhere! There is no philosophy or path or method that will bring you to that reality as where you are is here and now .... always has been and always will be .... there IS no future, and no past of course.

If you are concerned about our so-called country, you should be also concerned about the collapse of our planet. The collapse of your home -- whether that be your immediate environment ... your neighbors environment ... your neighbours space also being your own. ... is in peril. What's the use of dividing it up with religion or nationalism or whatever else?

Answer if you are able to

That's a question better posed to those intent on "dividing it up" by nationalism and religion, not Johnny.
