What are the advantage and disadvantage of solar panel?

I think Solar energy is renewable power source, clean and ECO friendly.The advantage and disadvantage are listed below:

Advantages:-
1.Reduce or completely eliminate your electric bill.
2.Solar systems are long lasting.
3.No noise or smells, solar operates totally silent.
4.Solar panel can provide power to the most remote locations etc.

Disadvantages:-
1.Initial cost of solar panel system is high.
2.Solar panel set up require large areas of land.
3.Electricity can not produced at night, and less production on cloudy/rainy days.

I want know more advantages and disadvantages related to Solar panel so please share your informative views about this post.............

Some research project was done to compare "deep green" retrofits on older houses to compare those changes to just putting up solar panels. I think they did some rather expensive options for super-insulating and never addressed air exchange systems, buffered spaces and heat storage and no mention of passive solar but their result was about 136 years for return on investment. Just adding enough solar panels to power the house as-is had a 20 year return on investment (at current electricity and fuel prices). So, eliminating your need for a furnace and DHW was 6 times more expencive then an over-sized solar panel system on an unaltered house. I still think they are way over-priced and think I can get such a "deep green" retrofit to come close to the price of solar panels but solar panels are way easier to add to your roof or fence or garage roof then it is to rip apart one side of your walls (inside or outside) and build a second wall to get a foot or two of insulation in the walls and extra air-tightness. Of course the most cost effective is doing a bit of both... efficient appliences, weather stripping, replace the leakiest doors and windows and then size your solar systems (use both heat and solar cell types).

When I built this complex, I paid close to $5/watt with shipping for panels, and now, on ebay, you can get good ones for $1.85/watt shipped!!! I bought two at that price and they are performing well, making up for losses over 12 years and for increases in power use, like with this Energy Star rated computer.
For do it yourselfers, the best time to go solar is NOW!!! Our payoff time, even at the higher cost, was 6 years.

Between Obama and the zombie apocalypse, I give solar another 50 or so years before its time is up and no one's making panels anymore. I'm gearing up for a switch to oil (from animal fat) and wood.

To reduce the complete electricity bill, the cost of setting up such panel will be huge! Because, the efficiency of Solar panel is very Low, only about 23.5% (Highest till date)! This is the main disadvantage of a Solar panel. Otherwise, this is the ultimate source of Free electricity along with being environment friendly. The problem of getting Power in night may also be solved as I read somewhere that scientists are now trying to get power from the Infrared ray of Sun! Then electricity can be produced in night too!
