"As Brad Plumer notes, America’s modest progress to date still leaves the world on a pathway to climate catastrophe. But it also shows that projections are not destiny. Things can change, and quickly." The quick change will probably be for the much worse rather than the little bit better. |

yeah, economic collapse is not the good news people like to hear. Cheaper natural gas with fracking is a rather short-term measure so we still need to replace coal before natural gas goes more expensive then coal again. |

Perhaps the quickest change will be economic, more from overpopulation's effects. The quick change I was thinking about is to warmer temperature and worse conditions sooner and greater than anticipated. Really, there is probably too little time left to switch to non-emissions power to stop completion of tipping point crossings, even at emergency ASAP speed. The only thing still possible is to shut all the fossil fuel power plants down, or destroy them, and do without their power. That still leaves the stopping of emissions from shipping and travel, or severely curtailing them. Plus, stopping people from forest clearing and slash and burn farming. I just don't see that being able to be done at all. The train wreck of ecocide is all I see coming. First the population crash, then thermageddon. There are conspiracy theories that may be hopeful in a way, but no way to know of their real probabilities. |
