That reminded me of the big festival a couple of years ago. They have it every year for 3 days including the 4th of July and one weekend. They use the money to buy land for the park system in town and they have done it for decades. They have everyone park in a couple of satellite lots and bus them to the park. This time one of the peopl on the bus was commenting on the badge I have on the front of my wide brimmed hat. Not quite a cowboy hat, but a little larger than the usual bush hat. It was unusual to them and they were guessing it origin. When I finally told them is was a South African snipers pin they shut up completely. In fact, the bus got very quiet for a long time. A couple of them followed us for a while as we walked around, but I am sure it was not on purpose.

Nothing like the newest 50 cal sniper rifles, but the most impressive ever, to me, was the Quad 50. Three guys with one in an armored 8 wheeled ATV type vehicle stopped an attack by at least 600 against a field standby location that had less than 20 US on or off duty. Stopped them at the last of three barbed wire fences next to the little 1500' CIA runway in Tan An. Just left lots of body parts, and the NVA running. I evac'ed only one from the 100 round mortar/RPG barrage before the ground attack.
I hated getting shot at and followed for a mile with their 51 cals. Tracers looked like white footballs and nothing on the Huey would stop them.
Of course, the P51 and P 47s of WWII had the equivalent of a quad 50 on each wing.
The revolving 20mm chain gun is also very impressive. Remember, our government has them and we don't.

I was told of an AC-130 strike on an NVA bunker complex near the Cambodian border .... surreal was used often. There was no resistance afterwards.

The only thing that might have been worse was the wrong side of a Arc Light raid by B-52s. They said the ground shook miles away.
