Last week, PBS admirably acknowledged several mistakes after airing a segment on climate change that "balanced" scientists who acknowledge the problem with a weatherman who continues to dispute the temperature record. The problems with that particular segment have been addressed, but the tricky issue of navigating climate misinformation remains.
Ideally, journalists would never need to mention untruths. Why report on myths about science when you may be inadvertently causing your audience to remember and believe them?

But we live in an era of what Grist's David Roberts has called "post-truth politics." It would be strange to report on the politics of climate change without acknowledging that many elected Republicans continue to deny it. The trick is to not leave your audience similarly confused.

I think it is the "suit and ties" vs the "red necks". I know a lot of artistic people who are absolutely convinced that every word out the mouth of anybody who works in an office is a lie. Scientists are too good at looking credible that they must by faking it and trying to dupe the masses. Of course the problem is when such conspiracy theorists get enough money to run for office.

Any "balance" done to "debate" AGW automatically gives way too much credence to the denialists. If they truly want to be "balanced", then it should reflect that 97% of climate scientists support AGW while only 3% don't.
Only 3% of the interviewees should be in the denial crowd and 97% should be in the Pro-AGW extreme majority.
Journalists are in a "selling" business, so maintaining "controversy" when there really isn't much, justifies their paycheck. [-X [-( :-& #-o

When frustrated by Anthony's ceau on TV, its easy to getinto some mode of wanting to censor him from ever expressing anything on TV.

It seems that there should be a counter balance of some kind to give the correct science of the situation. On another forum I was wanting to compare Anthony's freedom to Hitler's PR blitz against all things non ayran race. Basically you have a Fox news similar to Hitler pubishing all things wrong about climate.

Hitler had the media and all competitors could be killed if he wished. Obviously that isn't happening here. Just the same I am troubled that organizations have a complete right to lie over the air waves. The more power they get behind their lies, the closer they become to someone like Hitler.
