The coal fired car ferry, SS Badger, based in Ludington, MI takes passengers from Ludington, Michigan to Manitowoc, Wisconsin, along this route they dispose of their used coal ash by discharging it over the side of the ship and directly into Lake Michigan. Coal ash contains toxic metals such as arsenic, lead and mercury, which is being dumped directly into Lake Michigan every time the Badger crosses, which is daily.
Wisconsin's governor, Scott Walker, has written the Environmental Protection Agency asking that they give the SS Badger permission to continue dumping this toxic sludge off the ship and into Lake Michigan.
Please take a moment to sign the petition and tell Scott Walker that you don't want this toxic ash to be dumped into Lake Michigan!
Let's keep the lake clean and serene for future generations to enjoy!

badgers are always leaving a mess

Badgers saved a small boy in Canada a long time ago. He went into their den and was suckled by the mama during the winter while frantic searches failed. He cam out with them in the spring. I love badgers, we need badgers. I witnessed too many dead ones on the road in my recent trip to Minnesota.
I wonder how many ferries are doing the same thing in the Great Lakes. How about all the CO2 and soot they are spewing out? How about their reason for existence from overpopulation?

Google maps constantly wants to take me through the USA and on a ferry when heading to Eastern Canada. I cannot figure out how to keep it from recommending those two things so I have to request the trip in pieces to force it to stay in Canada and stay off the water (especially for a winter trip planned in the summer with animals involved... crossing the border twice is stupid to save 2% of the trip's distance).

I have met 2 tamed American badgers and find them adorable. We had a dog that looked close enough to a badger that farmers have told us many times that they saw a badger in our yard. There was a Disney film about a kid with a pet badger that I absolutely loved and half the film was shot at two locations that I passed by often when traveling to and from university from my parents place.
