What's even worse are scientists (or untrained, outspoken proponents of it) attempting to counter real science. There's nothing I love more than putting these folks in their place before I learn that they have a degree in philosophy and a career driving a lift truck.

Oh, now this ladies and gentlemen is a very good look into the mind of a leftist. A degree of superiority on display while looking down at those who drive a “lift truck” for a living. Oh, these people can’t possibly understand what goes on here. I love this attitude among environmentalists. Its this elitist nonsense that is at the heart of why you can’t convince a majority of people who vote.

There is nothing wrong with driving a lift truck for a living, but those who do rarely have the background to understand complex scientific issues. In fact, I have spoken with "professionals" who cannot grasp simple concepts such as why the carbon cycle is not an emission source but an exchange source.

The reason a majority of voters do not vote on long term issues is that they do not look past the short term most of the time, which is why pay day loans and the like are still thriving.

Yes, those about which I speak are generally leftists.

Oh get over it. It's more like this--I wouldn't hire a carpenter to remove an inflamed appendix. I'm also reminded of the PhD I worked with when I was 16 years old...at Burger King. Knowledge is just like any other tool. If you don't know what to do with it, you just as soon put it down for risk of looking like a dumbass.

Even if they did have a genuine knowledge (some do, of course), I would call to question what they're actually doing with it. Winning friends and influencing people certainly counts for something, I suppose. This reminds me of car collectors that garage their vehicles just to show them off, hardly ever or never driving them.

Understanding and effectively applying are two different things.

I think it has more to do with a well-meaning but amateur scientist syndrome....that and scientists' general inability to communicate in terms common folks understand. Convince is a key word.
