Looks like Willie Soon has not been honest in his funding sources.

That man has lost all credibility. He could have done great things in researching the sun's impact on the climate.

Unfortunately it looks like vested interests got in the way.

A shame.

Willie Soon lost his credibility with his peers a long time ago. The numbers of cites of his work shows just how much his research is accepted. It was easy to see that he was only a "gun for hire", but harder to gather the evidence to prove the extent of his prostitution of his "science".

Many years ago one of the "skeptic" supporting groups offered a $10,000.00 payment for any scientist of note to publish research critical of the IPCC's reports. More was offered to cover travel expenses and the like to present said research. No scientist would stpe forward to accept the offer, but it was clear afterwards that some private agreements had been made for a few "scientists". It was speculated the public offer was to open the door for some new private discussions with potential candiates.

Most people do not know how these big businesses operate concerning the environment, because they see the big direct consumer related businesses trying to show corporate responsibility as part of their ad campaigns. The entities not directly providing to the general public consumers, however, do not need that type of ad spin because it does not affect their sales. Those groups are the ones who will spend millions of dollars to delay the implimentation of pollution controls because it saves them even more money by doing so. It is generally all about the bottom line with this type of company, because the investors return on investment is the critical aspect.

Over the years I have seen this first hand. I have spoken with the attorneys who billed their clients millions knowing they would never win the case, but the delay saved their client even more money than was spent even with the addition of the millions in fines which were attached. Someone in the industry had determined how much they could save by this course of action and monitored the costs to ensure continued oppostion was profitable. I imagine they got a bonus for the money made each year as a result of this action.

Jim was the Director and an instructor at the Sierra Nevada Field Campus from 1985 to 2009. His enthusiasm for natural history and ecology has led to an extensive knowledge of the plant and animal life in the Sierra Buttes and Yuba Pass area of the Sierra Nevada. He believes that every class should be highly informative, somewhat rigorous and fun.

He has taught the World of Plants, Nature Study, Natural Sciences for Teachers, Bird Banding, and Bird Identification by Song classes at SNFC and continues to teach the latter there.

Jim taught at Everett Middle School and Wallenberg High School as a science teacher and was a lecturer at San Francisco State University for Biology 230 - Introductory Biology for majors and Biology 101 Human Biology.

He was the principal investigator for the Sierra Nevada Neotropical Migratory Bird Riparian Habitat Monitoring project sponsored by the US Forest Service.

He conducted breeding bird surveys for the USGS. He is a past president of the Western Bird Banding Association and was an official trainer for the North American Banding Council's certification program.

I had Jim Steele tell me once that the temperature records he provided for two locations proved the UHI effect was the cause of the increase. The problem with his assertion was the airport location supposedly affected by the UHI was rural and surrounded by a forest preserve and the airport location not affected was actually a training field for the Air National Guard and was significantly more built up. The assumption of causation turned out to be nothing but an unrelated correlation.
