Maybe this is where the "warming is good" folks will make their last stand. Bikinis in the arctic. Just wait until the fires start or they start sinking into the melting tundra.

A correction is necessary. Lake Baikal is well below the arctic circle so I can only guess where those bikini clad ladies were taking in the sun. However nothing substantive is lost. Here is a site that deals with Norilsk and its neighboring towns and the extraordinary heat is confirmed. A close neighbor had 10 straight days of over 30 deg. cent. in July. An Arctic site in Alaska had set an even higher temperature record in earlier years.

Yes, you're right, it's relatively far away from the arctic. And I mean, the last temperature record is thirty years ago, that is no so frightening as it was last year or something. Nevertheless this story leaves kind of a bad feeling.
