A correction is necessary. Lake Baikal is well below the arctic circle so I can only guess where those bikini clad ladies were taking in the sun. However nothing substantive is lost. Here is a site that deals with Norilsk and its neighboring towns and the extraordinary heat is confirmed. A close neighbor had 10 straight days of over 30 deg. cent. in July. Yes, you're right, it's relatively far away from the arctic. And I mean, the last temperature record is thirty years ago, that is no so frightening as it was last year or something. Nevertheless this story leaves kind of a bad feeling. |
