Our energy comes form the sun, so if there were not something like increased concentrations of a known GHG or particulates the temperature would track solar output. There has been no cooling below the solar scale so particulates are not having as large of an effect. The temperature has continually climbedoutside of the solar output track so there must be a retention of energy brought about by our increasing the GHG concentration in the atmosphere.

We have those who still are ignorant of AGW making it so reductions in population and emissions have not really even initiated. The ultra conservative political IPCC says 80% reduction by 2040. 350.org had the best with a 90% reduction by 2023. However, this year we may be crossing that methane monster tipping point. We will see.

The animation zooms in on the graph of temperatures, often times referred to as the Hockey Stick for its distinctive shape, and shows the granular changes over time. With geopolitical fires continuing to smolder between Russia and Ukraine, actual wildfires have erupted across a vast swath of territory to the east.

You can spot the Russian wildfires in the mosaic of satellite images above showing a large portion of the country as it looks from space today. Each red dot marks a spot on the ground where a sensor on NASA’s Terra satellite has detected fire.

More than 100 fires are burning today on 140,471 hectares, which is equal to 542 square miles, according to The Voice of Russia Radio. That’s half again as large as the City of Los Angeles.

Fires are burning in the Irkutsk region, the Omsk region, near Lake Baikal, and other areas."

Solution: reduce emissions 20% per year(for <5 years) and population 5% per year(for >10 years). In addition to being near emissions free through any means necessary(like forcing a population crash and volcanic winter), we also have to increase the absorption of CO2 and other GHGs. Clean the oceans, and replenish the soils.
Back on subject.
Then there are several due geologic events that could start a population crash and/or a partial volcanic winter. A large human population crash within a decade, may reduce emissions enough. Diseases in very large scales, nuclear war well within thresholds of not killing the biosphere, or blow Yellowstone and Toba, also all within THIS decade.

Look at three scenarios; 1.) denialists and the fossil fuel industry are too powerful and greedy to shut it down as necessary to mitigate CAGW to a non-extinction event. Tipping points are breached and a worse than Permian ELE happens, quite probably the Venus Effect and no life on Earth ever again.
2.) people rise up to the challenge of not going extinct, but do too little too late and the above happens.
3.) people get it together and reduce emissions 95% by 2020 and in 400 years the climate is back to interglacial norms.
If scientists are wrong somehow and we have eliminated fossil fuel and other HGHG pollution, the worst thing is a cleaner Earth.
The way of denialists is to have our biosphere collapse with extreme extinction at the worst, and if we do nothing, we are still stuck with all the pollution to get rid of, at the best.

"The climate in the Arctic is changing faster than in mid latitudes. This is shown by increased temperatures, loss of summer sea ice, earlier snow melt, impacts on ecosystems, and increased economic access. Arctic sea ice volume has decreased by 75% since the 1980s. Long-lasting global anthropogenic forcing from carbon dioxide has increased over the previous decades and is anticipated to increase over the next decades. Temperature increases in response to greenhouse gases are amplified in the Arctic through feedback processes associated with shifts in albedo, ocean and land heat storage, and near-surface long wave radiation fluxes. Thus, for the next few decades out to 2040, continuing environmental changes in the Arctic are very likely, and the appropriate response is to plan for adaptation to these changes. For example, it is very likely that the Arctic Ocean will become seasonally nearly sea ice free before 2050 and possibly within a decade or two, which in turn will further increase Arctic temperatures, economic access, and ecological shifts. Mitigation becomes an important option to reduce potential Arctic impacts in the second half of the 21st century. Using the most recent set of climate model projections (CMIP5), multi-model mean temperature projections show an Arctic-wide end of century increase of +13°C in late fall and +5°C in late spring for a business-as-usual emission scenario (RCP8.5) in contrast to +7°C in late fall and +3°C in late spring if civilization follows a mitigation scenario (RCP4.5). Such temperature increases demonstrate the heightened sensitivity of the Arctic to greenhouse gas forcing."

It is an interesting article, but does not have the data from this year's jump in Arctic temperatures (with fires) in Siberia.
Of course the sea ice extent in early September is also needed info, and mostly the real estimated GTs of CO2 equivalency of oceanic plus tundra methane releases. When that number becomes over 36, the tipping point is passed and geometric warming increases. It was 18 last year.......
Drawing the curve from actual data gives us a more reasonably certain amount of time left to lower emissions and how much (or blow two super-volcanoes).

By inviting four former Republican heads of the Environmental Protection Agency to testify in favor of prompt climate change action, Democrats on a Senate committee hoped to highlight some degree of bipartisan support for the EPA's crackdown on carbon emissions from power plants.

The four duly defended the agency and disputed the notion that air pollution regulations are harmful to the economy. They also declared their acceptance of the established science on man-made global warming as an increasingly compelling reason to cut emissions."
