I don't have children and don't plan on having any.

I once heard someone to say that not to have children is to not believe in the future of mankind - this made me think, and then I tended to agree, I don't.

Would you go to the extreme of extinction? To leave the earth to it's own devices?

Another way of looking at it is that you have no confidence in your genetic participation of the species. If one believes their genes will not give the species any benefit in survival they might not reproduce. Of course, there are many other reasons as well, but this is a counterpoint to the one you have now.

I can see this view, but I'm not sure that is where I am coming from.

I am not apathetic about the present - I support animal groups, I rehome rescue dogs, I try to tread as lightly as I can on the earth, .. but I cannot build up much passion about the future. I think the earth will only return to it's natural order when people have gone. I suppose my passion lies with the earth without people 8-[

It is most unfortunate that the trajectory is toward a mass extinction 'event', with the strong possibility of not even a 30 million year recovery. Fossil fuel use>overpopulation>pollution>Global Terminal Extinction. :-({|=

Ha. That makes sense. In order to be good at solving logarithms, I have to know some other stuff. And if I suck at logarithms, then I'd have to know something that let me know I was bad at it. Actually, that's not a good example because it's really easy to tell if you suck at logarithms or not - you check your answers. It's the people who think they're as smart as a college person, or a college person who thinks they're smart just because they went to college, where it gets fuzzy. So I'm guessing.

Someone once said if a problem is manmade; then it can be solved by man as well.

My friend said that she sees lately only intelligent people giving up on the idea of having children. There is something about this though, though...

People are like invasive species.

This voluntary extinction movement is so full of shit!
Based on the idea that all humans are like a plague, instead of a mammal species or whatever.
Now we have famous people like David Attenborough saying this is the case and how we need to cull the amount of humans...bullshit.
David is an industrial human just as you and me are, and therefore complicit in destruction of the planet.
Does Attenborough build a sailboat and navigate his way over the oceans to film wildlife around the world with a camera crew and equipment made of fairy dust?
No, he uses industrial society and it's destructive products.

Hunter-gatherers live on Earth as part of nature sustainabily for millions of years.
Agrarian humans live an unsustainable damaging society for 12,000 years.
Industrial humans destroy the planet in only 100 years.

The people of North Sentinel live on an island the size of an industrial city.
They did so for 60.000 years or more.
Do they overpopulate and deforest the minute place while polluting it?
No they do not, so what is their secret?
They are still hunter-gatherers.

Should we copy them by walking around naked and living in huts?
Or do we learn to have enough in food, water, shelter and a song and dance?
Industrial society will soon destroy this planet regardless, so if people wanna die there is no difference at all but speak for your own industrial kind and leave others the hell alone.
If there were only 10 humans on Earth running industrial society with robots the planet would still die.
