Post subject:  Energy East Pipeline

TransCanada Corporation has been planning to build "Energy East," what would be North America's biggest oil sands pipeline, for quite some time now. If built, it would be used to transport oil sands crude from the province of Alberta to a seaport on Canada's east coast.

"Energy East (pipeline) is anything but Canadian oil for Canadians." -- Council of Canadians

Most of the oil that TransCanada wants to transport through the Energy East pipeline will be destined for export. This will make a few fat cats richer than they already are but that's about it. So why should we care?

We should care because what TransCanada wants to transport across Canada isn't really even oil. They want to transport a diluted oil sands material commonly known as "dilbit." It's a highly-corrosive, toxic goop and TransCanada plans on pumping 130 million litres of it through their pipeline every day. This would put the Ottawa River, many of its tributaries and the drinking water of those of us who live here at great risk. You see, TransCanada cannot guarantee that their pipeline will never spring a leak. In truth, TransCanada has a history of fudging the facts on pipeline safety.

In a world where in many places clean freshwater is in short supply, surely the Ottawa River basin is worth far more than a risky pipeline that would very likely destroy it.

I have my "Water is Life" long sleeve T shirt. It is hard to understand the pigheaded greed in the face of obvious methane turnover runaway to anyone educated. Canada will be hit by a flaming freight train of concentrated methane heat dissipating and going south. You might have just a few years, like two. 2028.7 +6*C and extinction of surface life. The pole to pole speed is 2 1/2 years. Don't take my word on it, wait until spring and figure it out yourself. :-({|= :-({|= 8-[  :shh:
