Hi, The Passive Soil-gas samplers (PSG samplers) are used to determine the concentration of VOC's (Volatil Organic Compounds) and SVOC 's (Semi Volatil Organic Compounds) in the vadose zone. This samplers use activated carbon to adsorb the vapour phase. Does somebody knows any information about the type of activated carbon that is used in this type of samplers? ( some properties our studies). Has anyone done the analysis of this ? Thanks. |

The source of the carbon would depend on the manufacturer. Coconut shells when converted to charcoal are on example of a source for the carbon. Activation is merely the exposure to oxygen during the process. There is an established ASTM Method for this type of analysis. ASTM develops many standard methods for sale to industries or laboratories using teams of specialists. |
