A quarter of India's land is turning into desert - minister
Source: Reuters - Wed, 18 Jun 2014 08:14 GMT
NEW DELHI, June 18 (Reuters) - "About a quarter of India's land is turning to desert and degradation of agricultural areas is becoming a severe problem, the environment minister said, potentially threatening food security in the world's second most populous country.
India occupies just 2 percent of the world's territory but is home to 17 percent of its population, leading to over-use of land and excessive grazing. Along with changing rainfall patterns, these are the main causes of desertification."

Trying to save environment not by stopping industry but by running industry with green energy is like trying to save a victim of shooting not by stopping the shooting but by shooting him with a green gun.

(Green Gun = Gun manufactured using green energy)

Alternative energy does not save environment in industrial society.

Alternative energy cannot save environment in industrial society.

Nothing can save environment in industrial society.
.
.

The machines and equipment needed to produce green energy don't come into existence without environmental destruction......The wind turbines and solar batteries are made up of metals, minerals and plastic whose production by industrial activity destroys huge amounts of environment.....It requires mining industry, manufacturing industry, transportation industry.

First we destroy environment to manufacture the machines and equipment needed to produce green energy...... The electricity generated by the so called renewable/ alternative energy sources is then used to produce and operate thousands of consumer goods and services whose production by industrial activity destroys environment.......So we are back to square one.

There is no point in trying to run the consumerist industrial system with renewable/ alternative energy.......It would be as harmful and destructive as that being run by fossil fuel.
.
.

The claim that clean energy can save environment is just like the claim that recycling can save environment.

Industrial Society trying to save environment, not by stopping production of consumer goods but by recycling consumer goods is like the Gunman trying to save victims of shooting not by stopping the shooting but by shooting them with recycled guns and bullets.

Industrial Society has been coming up with ridiculous solutions for saving environment.

Green Industry..... Green Technology..... Sustainable Development.

All these are oxymorons.

No industry can be green.....No technology can be green.....No development can be sustainable.

Coming back to recycling :

Every Industrial Activity destroys environment.

Recycling Industry also destroys environment because recycling requires Industrial Activity.

First you destroy environment to make consumer goods.

Then you destroy more environment every time you recycle consumer goods.

So where is the saving of environment???

Environment is saved when you don't make consumer goods.

That is how environment was saved for millions of years on earth before industrialization.
.
.
.

It is not the fuel that destroys environment......It is what you use the fuel for that destroys environment.

If man had limited his activity to food, clothing and shelter then no fossil fuel would have destroyed environment.

Today man is using fuel to destroy environment for producing food, clothing, shelter and thousands of consumer goods and services, as a consequence of which no fuel can save environment.
.
.
.

If Urban Society stops its supplies to Rural Society it will live forever.

If Rural Society stops its supplies to Urban Society it will die within a month.

That is the worth of Urban Jobs, Consumer Goods, Growth Rate, Economy Rate and GDP.
.
.

Industrialization was the biggest crime on earth.

Agrarian society was the limit for man on earth.

Cities are the Graveyards of Nature, Urban Dwellers the Executioners.

Stop Education.....Close Down Universities.

Stop Urban Work.....Close Down the Cities.
.

Fossil fuels sparked overpopulation and industrialization, which has led to feedbacks from nature that would result in a worse than Permian Extinction. To stop it we need a much smaller population and total stop of fossil fuel emissions.
Inertia to change, stupid religious and cultural blocks, greed, all make the logistics nearly impossible. The tipping points are too close, and the only real solution is a population bottleneck and cooling from a super-volcano eruption forced by nuclear bombs of sufficient size around the magma chamber and slightly under. Yellowstone is the best possibility, and Toba could be forced to blow again, too. Katla probably isn't big enough to give a long enough winter to cool the biosphere and make up for the heat momentum. The Cascadia and LaPalma tsunamis/earthquakes could cause a crash, but no cooling.
So, with technology we can save the biosphere, and the survivors would have to learn their lesson and into the future, never industrialize or use fossil fuels again, never over-breed past sustainable again. They must have a spiritual and moral change to never let this destruction ever happen again from humanity.

Hi,

New user speaking here. I am currently living in Europe (a lot of waste here - everything comes in a package :eh: ) and I agree with most of what you say on your long statment. I hope we all can learn from it and try to live a life closer with nature and away from the cities. I am from Peru and as you said my people (third world countries) dont need investments from `first world countries` , what we need is that your goverments leave us alone.

Coming back soon to Peru to live like I am supposed to and not like I was told or believed was `better`..

Here are some pictures of one of the 16 blowholes this year in Siberia, caused by HGHGs and adding large amounts of released methane, which is making it worse.

Fossil Fuel Dependence Disastrous for Economy and Environment

Dr. David Suzuki | November 11, 2014 7:37 pm |

"It’s become a cliché to say that out of crisis comes opportunity. But there’s no denying that when faced with crises, we have choices. The opportunity depends on what we decide to do.

What choices will we make when confronted with the fact that 2014 will likely be the hottest year on record? According to the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, global land and sea temperatures up to September’s end tie this year with 1998 as the warmest since record keeping began in 1880. “If 2014 maintains this temperature departure from average for the remainder of the year, it will be the warmest year on record,” a NOAA statement says.
Will we take advantage of the numerous benefits of energy conservation and clean energy or remain stuck in the old way of just blindly burning our way through? The choice is clear. Photo credit: Shutterstock

The world’s warmest 10 years have all been since 1998, and last year carbon dioxide levels rose by the highest amount in 30 years.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s Fifth Assessment Synthesis Report, released Nov. 2, summarizes three reports released over the past year on the physical science; impacts, adaptation and vulnerability; and mitigation. It offers a stark choice: Unless we quickly curtail our fossil fuel dependence, we face “further warming and long-lasting changes in all components of the climate system, increasing the likelihood of severe, pervasive and irreversible impacts for people and ecosystems.

As a broadcaster, I’ve interviewed hundreds of scientists over the years, but I’ve never heard so many speak so forcefully and urgently as climatologists today. It’s a measure of the seriousness of the crisis.

What choices will we make? Will politicians close their eyes while fossil fuel industry executives shovel money at them and enlist propagandists to spread misinformation and lies? Will we listen to those who, in the face of overwhelming scientific evidence, continue to say the global warming they once claimed never existed stopped 18 years ago, or that human activity doesn’t contribute to climate change?"
http://ecowatch.com/2014/11/11/david-su ... e-85901709
We see numerous negative effects of industrialization. Part of it is the 30% of HGHGs coming from simpleton agricultural industry by slash and burn. Then it is shipped with diesel and processed with coal, and further distributed with more diesel and gasoline, and added petro chemical packaging and more. Part of transportation's 30% and coal's 40% of HGHGs.

Despite of those facts, there are still climate change deniers.

Happy New Year to everyone.........Forests, rivers, oceans and atmosphere destroyed........Millions of species tortured, slaughtered and decimated.........The planet littered with billions of tonnes of plastic waste, chemical waste, gaseous waste and ewaste.........Happy New Year.

When we say happy new year, do we realize how happy the new years have been for nature after industrialization?..........Hundred years of industrial activity has destroyed what was created by nature in millions of years..........Happy New Year.

Destroy the planet whole year and then party on new year eve to welcome another year.........Repeat this year after year........Unlimited celebration and unrestrained hedonism is a consequence of industrialization and urbanization.

Years have been changing on earth for millions of years but the change in year was not associated with decadence, depravity, entertainment and pleasure chasing ..........This madness has existed for just 50 - 100 years.

For thousands of years before industrialization, new year was welcomed with prayer and worship not with decadence and depravity.

Industrial man is engaged in two main activities........Destruction and Celebration.

Agrarian society did not have Entertainment Industry, Music Industry, Film Industry, Tourism Industry, Fashion Industry, Restaurant and Food Industry, Alcohol and Drugs Industry..

Agrarian society did not have millions of pubs, bars, discos and parties.

Agrarian society did not produce millions of tonnes of alcohol.

Agrarian society did not produce thousands of tonnes of synthetic/ designer drugs.

Agrarian society did not have millions of prostitutes/ sex workers.

In agrarian society more than 99% of population was producing food.........All crazy activities happen when society does not produce food.........In industrial society 50% of world population is not producing food........That is why there is so much hedonism, decadence, depravity and pleasure chasing in industrial society.

The planet is dying and gasping for last breath but pleasure seeking hedonists don't even seem to notice because they are being continuously drugged by Entertainment Industry, Sports Industry, Music Industry, Film Industry, Tourism Industry, Fashion Industry, Restaurant and Food Industry, Alcohol and Drugs Industry.

Industrial society is destroying environment every moment and celebrating every moment of destruction.

Work Hard.....Play Hard.
Destroy Hard.....Enjoy Hard.
.
.
.

The entire urban population of industrial society is criminal.
The reason it is not in jail is because the system is being run by urban population.

Man lived in hunter_gatherer society for one million years........Man lived in agrarian society for 10,000 years........Man has lived in industrial society for just about 100 years during which he has destroyed the entire planet.

Industrial Society Destroys Mind and Environment

The Bible makes the break between man living off the bounty of nature and agriculture, which makes more sense. Agriculture in short order became allied to the industrial society. From fertilizer to pesticides to transportation to storage barns to houses and fences to electricity they are all wedded to modern agriculture.

I think I have some idea of what your ideal society might look like having camped out and cruise sailed, deriving most of my nonstore food from fish taken from public waters. However there is no solution with 7 billion + people to maintain.

Scientists: Human activity has pushed Earth beyond four of nine ‘planetary boundaries’

By Joel Achenbach January 15
"At the rate things are going, the Earth in the coming decades could cease to be a “safe operating space” for human beings. That is the conclusion of a new paper published Thursday in the journal Science by 18 researchers trying to gauge the breaking points in the natural world.

The paper contends that we have already crossed four “planetary boundaries.” They are the extinction rate; deforestation; the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere; and the flow of nitrogen and phosphorous (used on land as fertilizer) into the ocean.

“What the science has shown is that human activities — economic growth, technology, consumption — are destabilizing the global environment,” said Will Steffen, who holds appointments at the Australian National University and the Stockholm Resilience Center and is the lead author of the paper.
This young field of research draws from such disciplines as ecology, geology, chemistry, atmospheric science, marine biology and economics. It’s known generally as Earth Systems Science.
Humanity may have run into trouble with planetary boundaries even in prehistoric times, said Richard Alley, a Penn State geoscientist who was not part of this latest research. The invention of agriculture may have been a response to food scarcity as hunting and gathering cultures spread around, and filled up, the planet, he said. “It’s pretty clear we were lowering the carrying capacity for hunter-gatherers 10,000 years ago,” Alley said."

The craziest thing about industrial society is that there are millions of problems in industrial society but people take up one problem at a time, debate on it for a few days and then pick up another problem for more debate.

What is the point of taking up one problem at a time when there are millions of problems???

What is debate going to do???........Debate itself is a problem of industrialization.........Endless debate on endless topics is a disease and insanity of industrial society that invented the Printing Press, Radio, Television and Internet.

Billions of pages of debate is another toxic waste of industrial society which has also produced billions of tonnes of Plastic Waste, Chemical Waste, Gaseous Waste and Ewaste.

How many problems have been solved by debate???
How many issues have been resolved by debate???

All problems of industrial society have either been created by industrialization or they have been worsened by industrialization..........All problems of industrial society are unsolvable because industrialization itself is the cause of problems.

Problems of industrial society can go away only when industrial society goes away.
.
.

Industrial man is trying to solve global problems when he cannot even solve family problems and personal problems.

Industrial man is trying to keep the whole world in control when he cannot even control his own weight and mind.........Half of the world population has grown obese and needs prescription drugs, illegal drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, coffee and other chemicals to keep its mind in control.

Industrial society is trying to make international agreements work when even marriage agreements are not working.

Industrial society is trying to run a global village by integrating all countries of the world when even families are falling apart in industrial society.

Smaller the system the more sustainable it is.
Larger the system the more unsustainable it is.

It is height of insanity to even think of running an industrialized and globalized society.

Hunter-Gatherer society sustained for 1 million years.

Agrarian society sustained for 10,000 years (And would have sustained forever if it had not been replaced by industrial society).

Industrial society is collapsing after just about 100 years.
.
.

If Urban Society stops its supplies to Rural Society it will live forever.
If Rural Society stops its supplies to Urban Society it will die within a month.
That is the worth of Urban Jobs, Consumer Goods, Growth Rate, Economy Rate and GDP.

Industrialization was the biggest crime on earth.
Agrarian society was the limit for man on earth.
Cities are the Graveyards of Nature, Urban Dwellers the Executioners.
