Russian and Taiwanese medical teams are on the ground, with Japanese, German and Italian teams on the way. The Red Cross Society of China, with International Federation support, has played a key role in the response, with over 35,000 Red Cross staff and volunteers participating in the relief effort. Some US$860 million (6 million CNY) has been received in donations from both China and abroad, BBC reported Tuesday. Hong Kong also announced on Tuesday it is granting US$640,000 (5 million HKD) from its Disaster Relief Fund to World Vision Hong Kong, which is in addition to US$39.9 million (311 million HKD) it already disbursed to aid earthquake victims. |

US military planes have been arriving here with high-tech equipment for dealing with the devastation of China's May 12 earthquake, and specialists who are training Chinese soldiers how to use it. Three US Army C17 cargo planes landed in Chengdu, capital of southwestern Sichuan province, in the past week laden with tonnes of life-saving supplies for the millions left homeless by the quake that has left vast swathes of the mountainous region under rubble, US officials said................ The US has also provided around half a million dollars' worth of emergency relief and supplies, which arrived aboard two C17 transport planes from a military base in Hawaii last Sunday, an official with the US consulate in Chengdu said. Donated on a military-to-military basis, the supplies included military rations and high protein food, tents, plastic sheeting, and water containers, all of which was taken to Beichuan, the official said. |

Humans have spent more than 99% of their time on earth in non-industrial societies. Non-industrial society destroys ecosystems for food, clothing and shelter. Industrial society destroys ecosystems for food, clothing and shelter plus thousands of unnecessary consumer goods. Industrial society destroys necessary things - animals, trees, air, water and land for making unnecessary things - consumer goods. Non-industrial societies have sustained on earth for thousands of years. Industrial society has destroyed all ecosystems within 200 - 250 years. Destroy consumerism......before it is too late. When did I ever say I was not using consumer goods? Show me when - show me where. The topic of my article says - "Industrial Society Destroys Mind and Environment". The words "Industrial Society" include most people living on earth - don't they? Yes, I am using the computer. But I am using very few other consumer goods. Some people are very much troubled by my use of the computer. Will these people kindly post a list of all the consumer goods and services they are using. Let us make a comparison. One more thing - computers are being used today because they exist - because they are being manufactured by the Industrial Society. Did anyone use cars and computers 500 years ago? - 2000 years ago? Every citizen of Industrial Society is using hundreds/ thousands of consumer goods. Every consumer good is made by killing animals, trees, air, water and land - directly or indirectly. [ more killing of nature takes place when consumer goods are used and discarded] The per capita killing of animals, trees, air, water and land in Industrial Society is hundreds of times/ thousands of times greater than that of pre-industrial society. Every citizen of Industrial Society is a serial killer - serial killer of animals, trees, air, water and land. Those who produce consumer goods are killers. Those who sell consumer goods are killers.
