I want to raise rodents for animal actors and for pets (to be sold at pet stores). To prevent diseases of wild rodents, I need to have a rodent-free zone around my place. Many farms in the area are being leveled and used for farm land and the farmer living in a nearby city and only staying in a motor-home during farm operations. The farm cats are being abandoned because animal shelters refuse to take them. Animal shelters put down dozens of cats a week in the two nearby cities due to the overwhelming volume of strays. My idea was to provide a home for unwanted cats around my rodent-raising facility. I looked to a large cat rescue as my model. The guy was arrested and his cats removed and he is facing animal hoarding and neglect charges even though everyone involved agreed he was doing the best job possible at giving these unwanted cats a good home including a veterinarian who dedicated his practice to the cats. PeTA seems to be behind this push to slander him and his operation. So, should I not even think of doing anything similar or is helping unwanted cats a good cause worth the risk of being on the bad side of PeTA and get the run-around? It all depends on where you are. Ethical animal treatment varies. One man or woman's pet is another's food. People eat everything from large animals to bacteria.
Our cat died a year ago and I have not wanted to get another, because here, they are not natural and kill birds. Pet dogs have lead to a decline in natural rabbits and squirrels (my favorites). The deer and other natural animals and plants are my friends.
People that hoard cats or dogs are nut cases to me.
