Due to the troubles that killer whales, polar bears and large sharks have been having, seal populations are growing rapidly. Last year, only 8% of the quota for seals was harvested and less is expected to be harvested while populations continue to grow. Fisheries Canada is worried about cod stocks not recovering due to the increased predation of seals who no longer have traditional fish species in sufficient numbers for them to eat. This might be OK for a few years but eventually seals are going to start suffering starvation. I am wondering of ways to intervene or if it is morally acceptable to let nature cull the seals with starvation and disease.
