The miracle of life is brought to an end in such a brutal and thoughtless manner.
Those subterranean troglodytes.
We get concerned about the child who rips the legs off a spider when we should be more concerned about what adults do to the 'lesser life'.
This video and other similar videos have been posted on this forum before. I think at the time we were involved in a very polarized debate around "animal rights' with the word "rights" obscuring the actuality of what we are doing to animals of all kinds, including chickens. The legal and philosophical debate became academic/intellectual, and the reality of our relationship with animals got lost.
I think that advocates for the "rights" of animals are too extreme in asking that we stop eating eggs altogether and that most cannot see the grotesque nature of the industry because they are too busy opposing the extreme position. So the animals get left out of what then becomes an intellectual debate about whether animals should have "rights" or not.
Personally, I like eggs as a food source and a source of protein. Eggs are also very convenient as a quick high protein snack on the go. But I could never buy them in the grocery store since learning about the industry and how that industry operates. My sister was buying eggs from Costco until I informed her of the situation. She has since stopped and I always remember to pick her up a dozen when passing through free-range country. When eggs from local free-range farms are not available, as they sometimes are not, we just go without until they are.
Thanks for bringing this up again. It needs to be considered.
