Alas, because of lack of spiritual development, there are millions of people on earth who do not realise that the spirit which animates them is the same one that animates all creatures who share the planet with them. They do not see them as spirits with earthly bodies, just as they are

Man's Sacred Trust: 'Not to hurt our humble brethren is our first duty to them, but to stop there is not enough. We have a higher mission - to be of service to them wherever they require it'

So by what right do we kill them? By what right do we eat them? They were never introduced on to the Earth planet for this purpose, as every teacher from spirit will tell us. They were placed here for the purposes of their own evolution, as we were...

We owe it to ourselves to listen to that small still voice which whispers to us more and more insistently at a certain stage of our spiritual evolution. For as every cell in our bodies constantly renews itself, we are what we eat. Every cell partakes of the substance we give it.
In this way, when we do not consume flesh saturated with the coarser vibrations of the less evolved (to which fear and resentment, often terror, are all too often added) the whole body becomes a more refined vehicle.
As it is progressively filled with more light, the vibrations quicken, and we becone more psychically and spiritually receptive - and a more fitting temple for the unfolding and kindling of the Divinity within each one of us

The Ute hunter would say a prayer for the deer, his brother, who sacrifices his life to feed the family of the hunter. He thinks of seven generations ahead, and makes sure there are enough other deer to keep their population going. The same with the fish he catches and other game he kills for food. He also thinks the same, or his wife, or child, when picking wild onions and other food from the land and forest. They do not take all of the pine nuts, but leave enough for healthy growth. They understand the interconnectedness of all life, plant and animal. They feel the spirit of the mighty oak and of the wolf, and even of the big mountain.
I, too, have felt this spiritual connection. I feel it daily, with all ultimately connected to God. [-o<

Man was created to "walk with the angels" and to be "the sanctuary of love and justice", not to hurt and kill.

Life is all about evolution. To learn and to advance the soul, that's the meaning of life. That's why we're here.

Not so long ago it was generally accepted that black people had no souls and that it was perfectly alright to buy them, sell them, separate them from their families, brand them, flog them, work them to death in the fields, kill them with complete impunity of the law.
the slave traders even used passages from the Bible to justify and continue in their trade.
Today we know better and we look back on those days, quite rightly, with horror and disgust and we view them as one of the darkest chapters in human history.
In times to come we will view our abuse of the Animal Kingdom with the same horror and disgust and shame.

Nice ideas.

It might make you look a bit of a fruit loop if you repeat them in public.

Tradition does not make it right!

'The thinking man must oppose all cruel customs no matter how deeply rooted in tradition and surrounded by a halo.
When we have a choice we must avoid bringing torment and injury into the life of another, even the lowliest creature; to do so is to renounce our manhood and shoulder a guilt which nothing justifies'
- Albert Schweitzer

I have two problems with the Peggy Mason (From 'New Age Companion') quote and the thinking behind it. First is the concept of "less evolved" creatures. It is actually humans who are "less evolved." For animals with the ability to thrive without the benefits of intelligence, language, society, and opposable thumbs, they have other advantages in their body design and instincts. I see animals as just humans in non-human bodies. Our task as a species as far as evolution is concerned is simply to thrive... and we have done that well. If you want to add care-taker, you have to accept such a task from a "higher being" such as God of the Bible telling Adam and Noah to care for the planet (which they did in a meat-eater fashion). The other thing that bugs me about this quote is the heavy use of Biblical references with an anti-Biblical stance. This is a baited hook trying to catch the unwary and draw them into some Marxist ideals.

Yer all a bunch of fruit loops!! This site is labeled Enviro not Eco. The Great Spirit is in all things to varying extents, not just the living.

Bless 'em all,
Bless 'em all.
The long and the short and the tall,

Bless all those Sergeants and WO1's,
Bless all those Corporals and their blinkin'/bleedin' sons,
Cos' we're saying goodbye to 'em all.
And back to their Billets they crawl,
You'll get no promotion this side of the ocean,
So cheer up my lads bless 'em all
