There has been some former employees of Marineland who have come forward to tell people of how some of the animals there have been treated. There have been pictures taken of seals with badly reddened eyes, walrus with scars and rashes on their bodies and a baby buluga whale being attacked and killed by two adult bulugas (see below). Do we really need places like this where dolphins, whales , seals and walrus are kept in small aquariums for our amusement ? Do we need zoos where the animals are held in cages or small enclosures where they have no real freedom ? Do we really need to go to circuses where the animals are bullied into performing for we humans ? About the only place up here I can say is even close to natural is African Wild Safari. But still the animals don't have real freedom. So why do we need these places ? With the internet nowadays we can view them in their natural state. Some may say it is because the children need to see and learn. Again this can be done via the internet (like almost everything else can be done via the internet). I would like to hear some opinions on my questions if you would. And thank you. http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/arti ... as-answers |

I have seen tons of pictures of lions and tigers on the Internet, on TV, and in the movies. I have seen bobcat in the wild, but no cougar that I could say I really saw. None of these prepared me for seeing these cats up close and personal so to speak at a local tiger preserve. I have seen dolphin and whales traveling off the coast, as has my older son, but he says that seeing them up close while sea kayaking while on an Alaskan cruise was much different. I know seeing the Orcas at the various Sea World locations was an eye opener. Nothing electronic can replace the actual close encounter that allows the total perspective. |
