Such a 'little' and 'local' (even in the UK) story in the scope of things .... what with Sandy Hook still in the forefront and North Korea and all. But I did check the comment section .... and there was only one comment which read:

by JLOinsurrey

“Someone should have told the Muppet that hunting has been banned and all the hunt do now is follow a trail laid by a runner.”

And then, at least I laughed out loud (LOL) for the first time today! For that, it was worth reading.

I rather like local stories: Most of the stories I hear day to day are local, personal and here and now.
That's how most of us live, methinx.
Matter of taste, perhaps....

I like local stories too because they are here and now and at least within my own vicinity. Which is why I am not particularly weighing in on the SAB stories about the UK. I imagine the Brits are dealing with the best they know how.

And yet local is as Margaret Mead suggested when she said, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

But maybe I have been mistaken all along. I thought you were based in Iowa.

Margaret Mead is most famous for her book "Coming of age in Samoa" - she did anthropological studies and stayed on the island and lived with its people for a long time, before such things became more comon. However, her conclusions have been questioned. No doubt the website will tell you more. However, I beg to differ with the quote. Not that we should not make an effort locally and with small groups but see how far it gets you to start a new political party, for instance. If you want to make a difference these days, aim to make a statement in the social media that gets picked up and goes viral. You may make a difference until the next "cause" comes along. Anyone remember why the whole environment one day last year got plastered with stickers with a message I have forgotten?

Well, I don't think this is local for either of us Iowanic; "we" being a couple of folks located on that part of the planet called 'North America", but it is an example of one person who acted in his own locale and created some pretty positive results. He was/is just one guy ..... and is an example of what Margaret Mead meant.
