Hi there,
I'm pleased to join this forum where there is a campaign to make the world a cleaner, and healthier place to live. I am from the beautiful caribbean island of Saint Lucia and my work invloves working with farmers to improve on their livlehood. I'm also an environmental activist and look forward to working with all who share the same passion

Welcome, Hudge! I've travelled a bit in the Carribbean, but never to Saint Lucia... post some pictures! What are the big enviro issues there?

hey Josh,
once again it is my pleasure to converse with persons concered with the environment. Over here in Saint lucia, there are a number of concerns of environmental importance. Due to inappropriate and irresponsible farming practices, there are problems with soil erosion. Off course the consequences of this has been haevy siltation of river beds and coastline, thereby affecting aquatic life such as coral reefs and so on. As you may know, one problem leads to another and reversal of these problems take years.
We also have a problem with the improper diposal of plastic bottles(soft drink, mostly). These items clogg drains thereby lead to flooding on a massive scale. Plastic bags also find thier way in the sea and eventually in the stomachs of several fish species.
The awareness of environmental concerns in somewhat existent but not aggressive enough. There has to be immense apprecaition by the general public and honestly, there is much to be done. In general, we have alot to do regarding "cleaning up our act" and can be achieved with education and legislation. The development of the Tourism industry is also dependant on the manner in which out natural environmant is concerned.

I hope this was not to much to take in but i can discuss related issues as time goes by.

Hudge... beautiful site! I didn't realize St. Lucia was so mountainous! It reminds me of St. John. My wife and I prefer islands with a bit of altitude to be gained, you get much better wildlife and vegetation. Is the island relatively safe? Sorry to pester you with island-specific questions, but I always love hearing from a local source!

Well josh, The island is relatively safe. As in everything, every country has its probelms but i can safely say that St.lucia is one of the safest and most beautiful destinations in the caribbean. I wll post you some of my own pictures by e-mail. If you plan to visit some time, let me know.
