My name is Rachel, I'm 24 and I live in Maryland. I've been a vegetarian for 9 years and a vegan for 2.5 years. I love my pet rats, I have 9 of them. I'm here because I deeply care about animal rights and I really would like to keep learning and educating myself and others about it. I need to know peoples opinions and concerns about these issues so maybe I can get an even better understanding of it all!

Howdy, Newwave! Welcome abourd!

I'll be upfront with ya; I'm a omnivore and come from a long line of hunters. You'll find animal rights issues will be rather completely commented on but most of us try to listen; the more views the better.

welcome fellow rodent fan. you will find me constantly saying we need more beavers or using stories about various rodents as examples. I have been almost a vegan all my life but not out of principles but rather more practical reasons like being highly allergic to some meat (fish, seafood), generally not liking the taste, and being too cheap to buy it but lately I am trying to be vegan for environmental reasons: 1)local foods... preferably home-grown are hard to grow animals safely and legally and 2) avoiding the use of heat for cooking or refrigeration eliminates most animal products from the diet (they need to be cooked or refrigerated for safety reasons)

Hello Rachel! Nice to meet you. A very warm welcome to the forum.

(I'm a rodent lover too!)

Shine a beautiful light!

Greetings to Newwave and Knight. I'm Fosgate and I've been sober for....oops wrong crowd, sorry! I'm an environmentalist. My main beefs are with human population growth and the modern world's gluttonous consumption of natural resources. Can't think of anything in particular that I'm flat out against utilizing as such, including animals or nuclear fuel.
