I'm originally from NJ... while some parts certainly do seem like an armpit, they have nothing on the industrial parts of Louisiana, Texas, etc. What about the Pine Barrens, the northwest mountain/farm regions, Cape May, etc? If you judge NJ strictly by the major highway corridors, you are missing some of the nicest parts.
Granted, if sprawl is allowed to continue unchecked, many of those beautiful areas won't be around much longer.
