Good morning! It's a beautiful fall day here in the North Carlina mountains. My name is Sharyn. I'm Cherokee, Catawba, and Blackfoot. I am 38 years old(Young )and the mother of 3 teenagers. Deborah(Running Fawn)is 18 and attends the community college here where she is majoring in Graphic Design and Music. She plans to go to NC state in a year or two. She is a black belt in karate and currently takes Ti Quando(SPELLING?). Matt(Standing Bear)is 17, 6 fet tall, and 250 pounds(!!!)I feel like a runt next to him with my 5'3, 112 inch frame. He is also a black belt, and almost has his eagle in scouts. John(Little Fox)is 15 and just started drvier's ed. He plans to join the Army in 2 or 3 years and get his college that way. Good thing too...might as well get something out of the government, right? I have home schooled them since they were in 1st grade. I still home school Matt and John. We live on 32 acres of land which the Creator loaned to us for a time. We try to live as simply as possible. I am a freelance writer and journalist. I love to read, cook and bake, live the Naturl Way of my ancstors, do native arts and crafts,get out in nature, and protect and heal Mother Earth. I did a ceremony sometime back, while I was very sick, that the spirits, and the Creator would heal me, but with that, I would honor the taking away of something bad with something good, so i dedicated my life to protecting the Eearth Mother and healing her. It starts at home too. You can't really get out there and save the rest of the planet until you clean up your own litle corner of it. So we did. I'm also studying to be a healer and shaman.Well, that's not all but I'll stop for now. Hope to make many new, wonderful friends and relations here...we are all one...we are all related. Aho.

Sharon, you are truly blessed to live in the mountains ...lol. My son moved to Asheville when he graduated college and he convinced his fiancee to transfer. He did not forgive us for moving from the mountains for a few years, but now that he can go back on his own he is happier. We spend at least a week in the Boone/Blowing Rock area every spring, but the summer and fall we usually go into WV where we still have family. You can take the boy outta the mountains but you can't take the mountains otta the boy.

Our younger son got his third degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do jst before he graduated high school. My wife's grandmother was 1/2 Cherokee from what I understand was a very small group in the southwestern portion of WV.

Thanks for sharing SharynRK, and it's true about what you mentioned that we all have to start at home. Taking care of Mother Earth has been something that Native Americans should be proud of having done and we all have to continue to do our part and to teach others to do so through education....no matter the setting.
