Howdy!
I am writing from here, Beijing, China.
I have just chosen to live as a vegetarian. There are two major reasons: 1. I don't want to be a part of animal cruelty. 2. I believe this is a healthier lifestyle. Indeed the leading cause of my this choice was that news of an Chinese animal welfare activist, a young lady, committed suicide last year because she just witnessed too much animal abuse and couldn't take anymore. She was a vegan. I follow her path as a tribute to her.
As you may know, there is no single piece of animal welfare law in mainland China. And some video clips depicting some Chinese treating animals in horrendous ways have been spread over the Internet. Indeed, I really feel ashamed of these country fellows of mine! If you boycott fur products from China, indeed from any country, I will stand by you!
The good thing is that some other Chinese have started to work hard to promote animal welfare in China. It is still a long way ahead to go before we can instill in most Chinese a sense of respect for rights of other animals and to persuade the government to pass relevant laws. But, I know, we will be there.
