But it takes cash to make it 'real world'

Reality plays rough, most of the time. Being a dreamer myself, I find this out regularly.

The space station has been a boondoggle of epic proportions. Overcost and can anyone name a single discover that's been made from it yet? It has delayed a manned flight to mars, and the hubble space telescope has produced 10 times the amount of useful info, at 10% the cost.

I guess I have to ask what is the idea behind trying to send someone to Mars? The planet has been determined to be uninhabitable, and it is very likely life could not be sustained anywhere on it. So why is there all this interest in sending man there? This is yet another one of those things I see as unnecessary, and think the monies needed to accomplish the task could be better used elsewhere.

Well, I can see your point, Road.
If we go to Mars, it'll have to be with a desire to set up a colony: if it's a 'flags and footprints' efford(As the Apollo program was) I wouldn't much care for it.

That's what I'm afraid the program will be, and realistically, I would more favor colonization of the Moon. It's a heckuva lot closer.

Call me a idealist fool, Road, but there's something about Mars that draws my fancy. I just think there's something there we need to know and we'll be better for trying.

Maybe it's just curiosity of the unknown. But, then again, you recall the old saying that "curiosity kills the kitty cat" ...
