Ouch! That doesn't sound like something I'd like to do for very long, either.

Enviro-types come from all backgrounds, I've observed. Heck, some even use soap...

Wow, Emma! Haven't heard from you in a some time! Things have sorta slowed down around here(joke, joke) recently....

I'm definitely the tie dye wearing, acid rock/metal solar electric guitar playing hippie war hero type environmentalist who showers every other day and is a conservative Constitutionalist Deist. I also wear Jimi Hendrix, KISS and Iron Maiden T-shirts.
As far as I can tell, environmentalists tend to be higher educated, smarter, and more moral human beings, but still not all have only one or no child, build Earthship or straw bale eco-homes or live on alternative power, unfortunately. Some of us plant trees, and some of us cut them down when necessary. Some of us believe in use of deadly force to defend our country from invasion, keep our representative Republic from being attacked, or protect the freedom of others from communists, radical islamics, and totalitarian malevolent dictators.
I don't drink or smoke dope, either, but my guitar playing will put you on a trip. I love God, guns, and rock and roll. I'm a peace through better firepower hippie. My hybrid vehicle is 4 wheel drive, too.

I've always thought that the conservative gun loving hunter should be the biggest environmentalists of all... After all without clean forests, rivers and lakes their wouldn't be much hunting to be done.[/quote]
I have found that most , even though they went through a course that part of was about habitat/ecology, can not come to grips with understanding AGW or human gross overpopulation. They may understand conservation of game habitat, and restrictions variable with game populations, but in their own lives can not apply conservation or the environmental philosophy of reduce, re-use, and recycle. Even a lot of self proclaimed environmentalists don't totally understand or practice those principles, at least sufficiently to make a real difference.

It looks like a hippie team effort to roll two giant joints. Picture was probably taken in Boulder.

I'm actually more of libertarian gun loving hunter. 8) I think a lot of us who are sportsmen/women consider ourselves to be conservationists in the spirit of Theodore Roosevelt or Aldo Leopold rather than environmentalists. The two aren't the same. We believe in things like preservation of wildlife, habitat, and wilderness. We subscribe to sound, scientifically-based forestry, wildlife management, and fisheries management. We believe in wise use and good stewardship of natural resources. Environmentalists, on the other hand, tend to be somewhat more radical in their views, and often take a no-use approach as opposed to a wise use approach. For example, many environmentalists are staunchly opposed to ALL timber production in national forests. Most conservationists, on the other hand, realize that selective, managed logging can improve wildlife habitat as it creates meadows and clearings as well improve over all forest health as it lessens the chances of pest infestations, disease, and large, catastrophic wildfires. The other thing I've noticed about environmentalists is they often tend to be fear-based in their beliefs and rhetoric. The sky is always falling and the boy is always crying wolf with a lot of these people.

I do agree with Iowanic that enviro-types comes from all backgrounds. I've read in an article that there are 4 types of hippie types. Although I must say that if you're going to ask me I'm the downplayed version since it suits my personality and I think this type is humbly among 4. The downplayed version type is reflected more by their environment-friendly, tree-hugging advocacies, rather than through their political and societal idealisms. Aside from that I'm also a vegetarian and they are like that as well. They simply focus on love for the environment and clean, healthy things. They are lighter and brighter hippies.

It's nice to know you are hippie wanna be. Hippie types are pretty cool as well though as I've said before it depends on ones personality. You may wanna look at this kinds of hippie that I found online, please see below:
Quote:
Environmental hippie: I care about the earth. Disposables clog landfills and take so many chemicals to make. Besides cloth, I compost, eat organic, and use other green products.
Ethical hippie: I care about people. Resources are limited and it's selfish of Americans to use more than their fair share. Besides cloth, I support my local homeless shelter and eat meatless or less-meat meals.
Frugal hippie: I care about my pocketbook and hate spending more money than I have to. Besides cloth, I garbage pick furniture, yardsale clothing, and price compare everything.
Vintage hippie: I look like a hippie to outsiders. Besides cloth, I love tie dye, yoga, and communal living. (Pot smoking optional.)

By the way, am pretty sure you are the 1st kind which is environmental hippie although you might wanna mix it with the ethical one.
