No I didn't miss anything... the point is that Americans are turning the work down... because of the long hours and hot dirty work.

Farmers, however, say they often have little luck recruiting Georgia residents to work in their fields because it is temporary, hot and physically demanding. To recruit more workers, some farmers are offering signing bonuses, Hall said.

And you're right the crops will and did rot in the feilds the cost of green produce has gone up because of it and the farms are now hurting because they couldn't get their crops to market...

Yes, there are none taking the jobs, but the law is not just making the illegals leave it is making the legal workers leave too, which compounds the problems.

Many Americans tried to go get farm jobs and were kicked out by gangs of illegals. Where in the past before the early 1990s, Americans worked alongside green card Mexicans in the fields and orchards. After, with more illegals, they became gangs of racists keeping the jobs ONLY to "La Raza". They used threats of violence to keep American workers out, in many places, on numerous occasions. Then the migrant workers who leave the area would not prevent the farmers from finding workers in a state with unemployment over 10% if this were actually the case, which it appears not to be given the losses in agricultural products is listed as being between 300 million and 1 billion USD now.

Easy enough solved. Pay what folks are willing to take for such work. If you can't do that for whatever reason, then perhaps you don't have a business or are simply not as efficient as you need to be.

They did pay enough to have the folks willing to take the work, until the people working felt they were not welcome in the community. Then we are talking about paying enough for new folks to take that work because of the impacts of poorly thought out legislation.

Simple solution, but how do you increase the costs of production without being able to increase the prices of the product? Labor is a major cost for agricultural products and the lower labor costs in other countries makes their produce much cheaper. Agriculture is labor intensive and unless the consumer is willing to pay higher prices short term they will definitely be paying much higher prices long term.

I wonder how hard the farmers/ag employers have tried??? The stories from a year or more ago where the Americans were kicked out by the illegals----has there been any active recruiting to get them (the Americans kicked out) back?? Have they posted jobs with job service?? Do they pay minimum wage or above???

As far as other countries go; they are hugely overpopulated so there are too many people for the available jobs AND WAGES GO DOWN. ANOTHER BIG THING AFFECTING COSTS YOU FORGOT TO MENTION IS THAT OTHER COUNTRIES HAVE LOOSER ENVIRONMENTAL AND AG CHEMICAL USE REGS/enforcement. Friggen caps lock!!

According to the articles, they have offered a one-time and repeated bonus plan, as well as, trying to hire unemployed parolies. From the number of articles over the months it seems they have tried pretty hard to prevent the loss of up to 1 billion USD fo their produce. That would seem to be a pretty big loss for anyone to take without trying very hard considering the profit margins for agriculture are very slim/

It appears so since they have contcacted the various governmental agenices for help and have tried to hire parolies.

According to the articles well above minimum wage for the state, between 2 and 3 times the minimum wage plus some bonus plans.

The labor costs are a large percentage of the total overhead in agriculture, especially in the less mechanized areas where the capital investments are much lower.

Brazed, deep fried, or boiled and served hot like potato soup or cold like vichyssoise.

Force welfare recipients out in the fields to save perishable crops, IMHO!!!
"40% of blacks are dependent of Social Security payments" for example, from the news.
The rest, too.

LMAO! only trouble is you forget a little ol thing called the 13th Amendment...

Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

The win-win scenario is if not only the illegals are made to pay the 5 to 10K fines and be deported, and Americans getting those jobs and paying taxes. AND>>> Those who have encouraged them under section iv of Title8USC1324 pay the $5K fines for each illegal---even if only one million of the more than 10 million guilty pay---that is 150 Trillion dollars! That would get us out of debt, on to infrastructure repair, and toward a steady state economy, non-emissions power and a greener country. No tax write off for more than one child and a permit required with proof of at least 105 IQ for both the mother and father, would get us toward true sustainability, and stop the dumbing down of America. =D>

Bounty hunting is more fun and profitable than picking lettuce!!! Besides, I grow my own lettuce. Say 10% of the fines owed???
Oh, and the illegals still owe at least 6 mos. ea. at hard labor, and the encouragers, aiders, abettors, and employers at least 5 years each. Hard labor like picking crops. That's the ticket!

In a bad economy there might be some who will take a job like that, but all would be marking time until they could get a better job. I have had people who left for other positions only to be out of that job before their probationary period was up. I did not rehire them even though they were very good workers because they were going to leave me in the same position as soon as they could. It was better for me to try another worker because the replacing turnover is a real pain. That is why many employers will not hire over-qualified workers. The people still do not seem to want to take a seasonal part-time job in agriculture.

At least in your area. Could be the heat and humidity, along with waiting until their food stamps run out.
If it was considered a state or national emergency, prisoners could be put out in the fields.
