Star Wars owns the movie department. Star Trek, as good as some movies were, will have to settle for ruling the tube, IMO.

The problem with just about every blog I have been to, is that you can not comment, or when you do, it is not posted, so you waste your time. :x

We should throw in Battlestar Galactica and Babylon 5 just for good measure.

I've seen a blog out there, somewhere, containing crossover stories of these two. The Galactica folks find a Babylon 5-era Earth. Kinda neat.

Here's a spaceship comparison site. Damn cool too!

OK, B-5 rules, the original BSG was good, but the new version just did nothing for me. B-5 was in some ways better than Star Trek only because it was able to build from the idea that Sci-Fi could work on TV that Star Trek did not have. Star Trek was hindered by not having anyone checking for continuity with dates, etc. for a long time. B-5 had the second advantage of being designed as a limited run series rather than an open end so the complete story line was known in advance.

The Star Gate series and Firefly should also be included in this comparison too.

Favorite B-5 Quote:

When Sheridan returned from the Shadow world after having his Whitestar do a self-destruct inside one of their large cities, he was told of the rumor circulating that he had died on the planet. His reply was, "I did ..... but I got better"

Indeed. B5 had a charm to it, a mystery, and intrigue that always drew me like stink on dog doo. It had the perfect combination of addictive space battle action and drama intertwined just too, too well. I almost pissed my pants when the Minbari surrendered at the battle of the line. My eyes glossed over when they blew up B5.

Old school BG had me fixated as a kid and was what got me hooked on Sci-Fi. They lost me too on the new one though. Showing how badly the humans got spanked I think ruined it for me. It was as if there was no point after that. I mean, c'mon, it's totally like what Star Trek would have been like had they let the Borg be who they really are. Humans in the old BG weren't seemingly always running with tucked tail either.

Like Star Gate the movie but never could get into the series. Never saw Firefly. Used to watch Seaquest quite a bit though!

Have you seen the movie "Serenity"? It is Firefly the movie. Firefly is the best Sci-fi since B-5, similar to the space cowboy of old Star Trek, but with some better twists and from the low end of the spectrum ... kind of like the Falcon of Star Wars, but with a bigger crew.

Saw some previews for Firefly, which I found appealing, but never got around to watching the show. I'll try to catch Serenity sometime. Gotta be careful though. If I like it, it will be added to my collection of flicks I watch over and over and over. Movie junkie, I am.
