You double posted, Wayne. My Dad had one of the first 500 when I got back from Vietnam. Cool car. I bought a '65 Mustang convertible and my sister bought a '69 hardtop. So, for a while, there were 3 Mustangs at my parents' house. Of course, the Shelby GT was the fastest. In fact its idle speed was 35 mph and my Dad got a ticket at idle!
Back in the days before AGW was known, but the slow crush of overpopulation was known. We believed in a Star Trek future, before further study of physics nixed that pipe dream. Now, people with muscle cars are pigs. Jet engines are even worse.
My '73 Mach 1 (351 CJ) idled at 35 mph too and driving it to school in a town with a speed trap was a real pain. I had to ride the brake from one end of town to the other. One officer tokd my dad I had driven past his house at 65 mph and if he would have had a crusier he would have caught me and given me a ticket. Knowing how I drove, my dad told him he could have only done that if I had wanted him to catch me. For the recod I did not drive past the house at that speed. There was a sharp curve that you could not take past 55 mph just ahead. The officer had been fooled by the '68 Camaro running in 2nd gear in front of me because the older lady in the Plymouth Valiant in front of him drove at a speed too low for him to run in 3rd gear comfortably. I saw a double of my car a few years back at an auction for 50K. It had just about the mileage mine had when I totalled it the last time.
