on't know how many other sports fans we have here and I haven't followed the world of cycling hardly at all, ever....

But Lance Armstrong's fall from grace is sad and looks to get uglier.

He appears to been one person who's private personality and public image were two different things.

I think Lance won seven Tours, and I think he's guilty. Let's have a little look at who officially won all of those Tours. 1999 Alex Zulle the first ever Swiss winner was ejected from the 98 Tour over The Festina Affair where drugs were found in his team car. He later confessed to doping (EPO) for four years and was suspended for 8 months.

2000, 2001, 2003 Jan Ullrich. He denied doping for many years just like Armstrong. He was involved in May of 06 with Operacion Puerto a doping investigation. He was suspended from the Tour that year. Nine bags of Ullrich's blood was taken as evidence. In 08 he paid German prosecutors 250,000 Euros to have the matter closed. This practice is common in Germany. Ullrich was ulitmately found guilty of doping by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

2002. Joseba Beloki. He was investigated during Operacion Puerto and banned by his team from the Tour in 06. He was cleared of all charges by a Spanish Court. He never was convicted, admitted, or paid any court concerning doping charges.

2004. Andreas Kloden. In 09 he paid 25,000 Euros and German prosecutors ended their investigation. In 06 he was involved with a doping scandel at Freiburg University.

2005. Ivan Basso confessed to "attempted doping." In 2007 was suspended for two years.

And of course Floyd Landis lost a yellow jersey along with Alberto Contidor. So, just like every other professional sport it is swimming in performance enhancing drugs. Lance has one more problem. Back in 2002 he won a civil case against some reporters who said he was doping. Seems to me those reporters should get their money back and deservedly so.

I think Armstrong became so hooked on his image of being 'Mr. Cancer survivor" he'd do anything to be that person.
He loved being a 'inspiration for thousands' and just thought anything that let that continue was okay.

There were so many guilty in all aspects, why blame it all on Lance? I think he's getting a bum deal. Why has it taken so many years to find out? How about all the testing that was done? He was clean, and now he's dirty? Or is it they changed the rules and the substances banned? Peddling? Who is peddling what? When? [-X :-& [-( :-$ =; :x :-({|=

Johnny:

Not failing a drug test really doesn't mean so much anymore.
Barry Bonds never failed a drug test for steroids....yet even his lawyers admit now he took them.
Masking agents/ designer steroids that may not show up in a current test/ and Human growth stuff can only currently be caught if the test is admistered within a couple days of use.

Lance was cycling for the U.S: everyone even remotely connecting with publishing and earning money off it held Armstrong up as the near-perfect person: just the kind of person the sport needed.

But if the stories that have come out have any truth to them, Lance knew well how much lee-way his status afforded him and he used it to the hilt. Teamamtes had to do things his way or the highway.

Eventually, they turned on him(Surprise, surprise) and now he's being buried under a mountain accussions. When faced with coming clean; he decided to quit and just walk away.

Lance couldn't get over being the cycling icon and mr "CANCER SURVIOUR". And the harder he tried to hold onto that image, the more trouble he got himself into.

Lance really didn't help himself much, did he?
The problem was it never really sounded like a confession: more like a attempt at a 'end-around' to get back into cycling.
