http://m.technologyreview.com/view/5107 ... wing-guns/ Efforts to pass new federal gun control laws in the aftermath of the Newtown massacre are making progress, while the NRA has argued that arming more citizens, even teachers in schools, is the answer to stopping gun deaths. Two researchers, an evolutionary biologist and a mathematician at University of California, Irvine, have now stepped back from the emotional debate and taken a dispassionate look at which kind of gun policies would save more lives, both in a one-on-one attack (as in a homicide) and in a shooting in a crowd (as in a movie theater or mall). Their findings suggest that President Obama, who has said he supports the right for private individuals to own a gun, is not going far enough if he wants to prevent the greatest number of gun-related deaths. The study starts by showing that the optimal survival strategies could be either of the extreme approaches: a total ban on private gun ownership, or a policy allowing anyone in the general population to get a gun. |

So two researchers make an error. "Two researchers, an evolutionary biologist and a mathematician at University of California, Irvine, have now stepped back from the emotional debate and taken a dispassionate look at which kind of gun policies would save more lives, both in a one-on-one attack (as in a homicide) and in a shooting in a crowd (as in a movie theater or mall). " So "save more lives" is the big deal even though we are 7 times overpopulated. OK, with that logic; OK, I will look for something that kills more than 195,000 Americans per year. https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos- ... 3952_n.jpg Found one! http://www.care2.com/greenliving/smokin ... -year.html Glad I quit 4-4-04, ban cigarettes!!! But Obama smokes................make him more of a felon than he already is! Can't beat the logic of this concerned father; http://www.care2.com/greenliving/smokin ... -year.html If the object is to save lives, the CDC is full of scientists; America’s Top 10 Killers – Most Common Causes of Death According to the CDC, the top 10 causes of death in the United States and the number of people affected are: Heart Disease: 696,947 Cancer: 557,271 Stroke: 162,672 Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 124,816 Accidents: 106,742 Diabetes: 73,249 Influenza/Pneumonia: 65,681 Alzheimer’s disease: 58,866 Nephritis, Nephrotic Syndrome, and Nephrosis: 40,974 Septicemia: 33,865 Cigarettes cause much of them and could be banned with more effectiveness toward saving lives including children's (from second hand smoke). Of course they wouldn't want to ban a cash cow that is addictive. So the government's purpose of going for a gun ban is not to save lives, which it didn't really do before. I quit smoking and drinking, but will keep my right to keep and bear arms that are effective against tyranny or attack from enemies foreign and domestic. No matter what two "scientists" say. CAGW and overpopulation , in the end, are the biggest killers of all. Far more important than banning cigarettes and guns is banning having kids for a while and banning fossil fuels use. Here we are talking many billions of lives. If there was a way to ban stupidity, greed, and corruption, that would really help! Ban axes and skillets????, but cannibalism is OK if you are hungry in Colorado; Alfred's Kitchen in the mountains------- "Israel Swan he was a rugged trapping man Until Alfred Packer cooked him in an iron frying pan And few was tougher than Shannon Wilson Bell Tough as salted leather; Packer salted this man well Then there was Frank Miller, then there was George Noon Packer et Frank with a fork and he et George with a spoon And James Humphrey was the last one from Utah And Packer's ax and mouth was the last thing Humphrey saw There was six men started out with Packer as their guide And Packer he came back with the other five inside Packer couldn't lead a party and he couldn't hunt no meat But give him an ax and a skillet and packer he could eat Colorado folks wanted to give his neck a stretch They gather at Lake City and said let us hang the wretch Melville shook his gavel at Packer's matted head And said "Hang him by the neck until he is dead, dead, dead" But Packer pled his case and the> Supreme Court set him free< O is it a crime for a man to eat when he is hungry He was a cannibal and a murderer and a son of a wretched gun But given an ax and an appetite, you might do what Packer done There was six men started out with Packer as their guide And Packer he came back with the other five inside Packer couldn't lead a party and he couldn't hunt no meat But give him an ax and a skillet and packer he could eat"...... |

What these two rearchers and President Obama need to do is amend the Constitution. There are constitutional ways to do this. So, do it. What is standing in your way? The left in this country owns the White House, the Senate, acedemia, pubic education, the press, major media, Hollywood, and at this moment the voting public. What's the problem? Do it. Outlaw all guns. Why can't you close the deal and impose your will on the American people? Do it. What's the problem? |

Saving more lives, in this case, obviously refers to gun policies. Bring in tobacco, alcohol, and many more dangerous things and you will end up with a study that will likely not have limitations. What would be more logical is to look at other factors that may affect shooting incidences, such as security checks in various places, various aspects of gun control (such as background checks), and even average income levels. |

To amend the Constitution requires a 2/3 vote in both houses of Congress, and requires 3/4 of the state legislators to amend. I would argue the left doesn't have anywhere near that kind of support. So of course the left want to leave the 2A in place and just chip away at it just like every other part of the Constitution they don’t happen to like and call it “reasonable” or “common sense.” Doesn't make it so. “Shall not be infringed.” |

One way to ban stupidity, greed and corruption would be to EXPOSE the anti-gunners and liberal felons for their thuggery and general scullduggery......... buggers they are. and does it really amount to more than a hill of beans compared to this????_____ http://www.skepticalscience.com/No-alte ... -down.html |
