Well the calves were a bit cheaper at the sale today, so I was able to come home with some. I suppose the fact it rained all day and is suppose to keep raining all weekend kept people from wanting to try a bottle calf. Nothing like wet weather to make them sick. These three were all feed lot calves, and I was able to get them all for $45. All ate when they got home, so we're half way there.

Sammy, they were pretty cheap yesterday, but I have a feeling next Friday if it's warm and sunny the price will go up. Three, day old calves soaking wet and cold should make for more then one case of scours. Must be where the name little squirt came from. 
I'm hoping to pick up a couple more next week if they don't go up too much. Maybe I should have picked up the other group of three at $40 each. But I just hated taking a shot at 6 head at once during bad weather conditions. Archer, mine was up and looking good today. When we got back yesterday mine didn't want to get up to eat. Actually he became mine when my daughter picked the two they thought looked like they would live. Dad gets the one most likely to die, lol. But this morning mine was up and running around like the others, and ate good. So maybe we'll have a chance at saving all of them, which is one or two more then I thought when I bought them. |
