I was tabling at an event that drew about 5,000 people.

Wishing I protesting Bush being in West Sac.

We also did trail building along the South Fork American River.

Yes, everyday is Earth Day, but there is something great about people coming together one day a year to celebrate the Earth.

This weekend we planted about tons of trees and plants. The Forest Service gave us 50 trees plus we bought 10 fruit trees and a bunch of other plants and native grasses. We'll be busy planting through the rest of the month.

What fun! I love doing big tree plantings and then goings back years later to see the mature trees! We just did a huge planting with 3rd graders. They had a blast.

I was up in Maine at a conference of the Social Venture Network (http://www.svn.org). It's an amazing conference where the top socially and environmentally responsible business owners, investors and foundations get together to share ideas and strategies for creating a better world. It was rejeuvenating for me personally and gave me a lot of energy to come back home and keep fighting the good fight.

That conference looked very rewarding! Do you know how many people were in attendance. Were there many people from the West Coast there?

But instead, you actually did something that will reap benefits. Good for you.

I think there was between 350-400 people there. SVN conferences always have a huge attendance from the west coast (including British Columbia). There is an "open" meeting (ie: not just for members) coming up this fall in Tucson. That's a great meeting for folks to attend who are new to the community.

Earth day? Never thought about it, I was too busy building a chicken tractor with my husband. Considering we were using reclaimed (free) lumber and wire, I think it turned out pretty well. Now the bantams won't get picked on by the bigger laying hens and can be moved to a different spot of lawn every day.

Here are two of my son's pretty bantam hens in the tractor.

Depending on exactly when it was, I was either reclaiming some rubber or kicking someone in the head.

If it was on Saturday I had a manicure.

Or perhaps both when you kicked people in the head to recycle the rubber protective headgear .... :P

That's pretty spiffy, ST. I've never seen a chicken tractor before. Never even heard of one. I like it.

I was, as usual, walking the talk, and talking the walk on environmentalism. Living the solar/Earthship/independent life with my wife and one child(no status quo). Less impact now, and less in the future. I built some cold frames to extend my outdoor growing season, and turned the compost. My skilsaw is solar powered (of course, so is everything!). :D
