I gave up on vegetables a couple of years ago- they take too much water, and I have plenty of friends who always have plenty of extra at harvest time, so I get all the benefits without all the work. I really enjoy flower gardening though (especially orchids!), will post some pictures when things get a little more filled out. Grace, my parents live in Florida and everything they have on their property, my stepmom started from a seed or a potted plant. She throws her orchids out on their deck and does nothing to them, and they bloom like crazy every year. Makes me sick. This is one of my orchids in bloom last winter: |

That's exactly the point, Archer- they are a lot of work, especially out here in the west where the humidity hovers around 30%. Those gorgeous blooms make it all worth it. I have another one just on the verge of blooming for the second time this year. This is what her blooms look like: |
