I've often been told that I'd a really good cook and I've been working hard on my gardening, so I decided to enter a few competitions at a fall fair, since we were showing rabbits there anyway. My husband, who is normally very encouraging, wasn't about this, especially my bread entry. :? Anyway, I did very well despite my doubting husband.

Largest Diameter Sunflower Head: 2nd place (my entry was 12 1/2 inches across, only 1/2 an inch smaller than the winning entry - hurray for rabbit manure in the garden! :P )

Tenderflake Best Pie National Competition: 2nd place (I entered a lattice-top cherry pie)

Pumpkin Pie: 2nd place

Braided Bread: 1st place and Best Bread overall! I beat out cinnamon rolls, dinner rolls, white bread, whole wheat bread and all the other types of bread in the competion.

Did pretty well in the rabbit show, too, and my son's pet chickens both got firsts in the pet chicken class, one because she's a good representative of her breed (buff Orpinton) and the other (golden Sebright bantam) because while she isn't anywhere close to breed standards, she's a good pet and calmly sat in my son's lap so people could touch her. Kinda weird how many people were thrilled to be able to actually touch a chicken. :?

Hey sounds like you had a great run at the fair. And also sounds like your husband won't be making too many other comments of your fair baking skills.

Of course you know at the coffee shop in front of all the guys he bragged about your baking and told them all he knew you'd do good. It's just one of those things guys do. We want all the other guys to think we're eating better then they are.

Thanks.

Yes, Ori, I'll post the recipe at FMB when I have a bit of time. I posted this here because I couldn't access FMB yesterday.

Nope. Eating lunch (pizza) now. Fresh moz, fresh basil, garlic, fresh tomatoes, thin crispy well done crust. mmmmm.

And I've got a Reese's cup with my name on it next in line.

Ya' know.. any other person had posted this I'd derail the thread with you in a heartbeat.

ST, about the people being thrilled to touch a chicken thing.. I'd be tickled if I knew someone with a chicken tame enough to pet. I've got a thing for birds though...

Ehh.. I like ST and it's easy to take her seriously. You on the other hand Ms. Grace are only second to me in the class clown category. :P

Sapphire is a very friendly little bird, probably because my son raised her from a chick. She's even followed my son into the house. :?

Sapphire the BBQ chicken ;)
