My entire childhood was filled with happy memories. It's impossible to choose a favorite. We did so many things as a family, big traditional holiday dinners, weekend excursions to Harveys Lake staying at their friend's cottage. We would stay in the "apartment" above the boathouse where below us the boat rocked all night long and I still remember the smells and sounds of that boathouse (and the many daddy long leg spiders eww). He had what is now a classic wooden powerboat. Going to amusement parks, Rocky Glen, Sans Souci, endless outings and picnics in the mountains, backyard birthday parties with 20 neighborhood kids, winter sleigh rides down Slabba's hill, building snow forts, snowmen, trick or treating, going out to eat with my parents to Twit's Twighlight Lounge and Dukey's (as a kid these places were exciting as they were for grown ups) etc. etc.
Here's a photo of some of us at my dad's brother’s house. His brother was a quadriplegic from injuries in WWII. He died at 28. My dad is behind the bed, my mom and me (in striped shirt) next to bed. The community rallied together and through donations built him a one-story wheelchair friendly house (where this was taken) in the country as he was one of 8 children living in a 3-story house and his brothers had to carry him up and down the stairs, which was painful for him too. We visited this house so often and I remember Sunday nights watching the Wonderful World of Disney, laying on the floor in front of the fireplace.
