I am starting to think the idea of the brown tree is a myth.

Image

One day I noticed that all of them I see is gray. I have looked and looked and can't find a brown one.

I do notice when people draw one it is brown.

Is the brown tree a myth.

Tree bark is usually many different shades of brown, grey green, red etc.
I cannot say I've seen a tree that is wholly brown.
You may like to see this link to some lovely tree barks and foliage.

BTW, a true black is never found in nature. Even a black horse is not a true black but a very dark brown...or so I believe. Those of you who own a black horse...look at the hair in direct sunlight.

Grace. Go look in most of North America. Look up close. Many look for brown as a sign of poor health in most North American species. Almost all in North America are shades of Grey, that will also hold true in Europe after checking. Don't look at a distance, get up close and look. Parts that have been cut may be different but that is an injury. Also don't peal off the bark. Look at the both very bark on both very young and very old (but not sick and dead).

I did some checking and found out several things. There are some brown ones but they tend to be tropical and in the tropics they are the minority.

I have also learned that many photographers in the days of film would touch up the pictures to get a color people were expecting and that today much is digitally enhanced to meet expectations.

Also did a challenge. In a forest, several people tried to find a brown one for an hour in a forest can could not come up with a single example of one that could truly be called brown.

It is something you need to go out and see for yourself up close.

I did find out from a distance they can look brown but when you get up close everything changes.

I really mean this. People will argue this all day long and will claim to look. Once they do actually go outside and look up close they see it clearly. It is almost strange the reactions I get in real life.

It is most fun to ask people this in a forest. Online it does not work the same.
