IMO it is because he is 'vulnerable' humanises him and that is one of the reasons we like him so much.
His command and usage of the English language never fails to astound me.

Also; "The science of hitting" by Ted Williams. I've read it before but it's good stuff.

I am a big Sci Fi fan like others before me mentioned. I also like Fantasty and am pretty deep into the Shannara series by Terry Brooks.

Currently reading "Omnivore's Dilemma" by Michael Pollan - it's really, really fascinating and I absolutely recommend it!

Next up is "Eating Animals" by Jonathan Safran Foer!

I am reading Socrates to Sartre. A good philosophical book for beginner philosophers. Highly recommended for students.
