I LOVED THEM! I know the Harry Potters are children's books, but they are really so creative and fun.

As for the books I've read and are reading... I am going to have to get new bookshelves. My two 8-ft tall ones are full and I now have books in boxes in the back room. At the moment I am reading the newest "Dexter," which I started before the TV series. They are great little books; I think they appeal to my affinity for/propensity toward gallows humor. I really enjoyed Gap Creek as well.

Let's see... I really love Patricia Cornwell's books, Carl Hiaasen, Wally Lamb, PRIMARY COLORS, John Saul, Philippa Gregory, Drew Carey's Dirty Jokes and Beer, Gilda Radner's It's Always Something... I have soooo many. I love them all.

Yo, Pops: the book I'm reading presently weighs roughly 1 1/2 pounds.

Would that be considered light reading? :)

You are in the minor leagues still. Our library here has eight built-in bookcases eight feet tall by three feet wide with one five foot tall by the window, three stand alone three by three foot, a desk , and two small tables with books filling all of them. Only the hardbacks though, as the closet in the bonus room has the paperbacks in the shelves that line two walls. I believe there are eight of those four feet tall and three feet wide, as it is a sloped ceiling. There are two three foot by eight foot cases in the livingroom and two or three boxes of my old paperbacks in the attic and spare closet. The stack of "to read books" is in the family room on an end table and is only an average of eight book tall in two stacks on top (hardback) and almost the same underneath (paperback) with the "in process books" on the coffee table and the bibrary books in two stacks on the hearth.

My wife likes the Dexter series too, and she used to read Patricia Cornwell also, she switches back and forth on her favorites.

I have a friend who phones me now and then He's not short of a £ or two as he was an Air Commodore yonks ago. My point is, he buys books by the yard (linear) and cleans out charity shops and boot-sales. He never reads them though.
He's very eccentric but good fun.

Good luck on War and peace. You'll need it.

I thought "The magic mountain" by(I believe) Mann was even worst. Either War and Peace or The magic mountain make Moby Dick seem breezy.

Here is a site that might interest folks that do read a lot.

http://gutenberg.net.au/ebooks03/0301541h.html

I use it to find quotes from books I have read .
