After a couple weeks where it never got above freezing, and we had a couple days in there were 2 or 3 was our high. It sure was nice getting up to 61 yesterday. Almost all of our snow is now gone, aside from teh bigger drifts and piles where I cleared the drive. Unfortunately one day was about it. 28 for a high today.

I had -18 this morning. Not sure what the wind chill is, I assume mid -20s. I thought they'd delay school, but ours is going as usual. My daughter got up and said she didn't feel good, so I told her to go back to bed. Now I don't have to go out and try to start her car.

Hey she's a senior, so now she only goes to school for 3 hours a day and then gets to take off for work. So I figure she can miss three hours on a morning like this.

Even in a decent shelter my poor goats are pretty cold. Lost an early kid Wed. Goats are kinda fragile.
Steers outside with a good windbreak seem to be doing OK. Upped their grain a bit for a little more energy, plenty of hay to keep the rumens working and making heat. Surprising what a cow can handle and be OK.
Chickens don't seem to be too bad off either but egg production has tapered off a bit.
Rabbits are doing good as well.
Humans on the other hand are quite noisy about how they do not care for this cold.
Been using quite a bit of wood in the old wood burner this week. When it's above 15 I can let the fire go out overnight and be OK till evening now I'm down stoking avery 4 hours or so.
Looks like 30's are headed our way shortly though if the weather guessers get it right.

For me the tough part is getting to those eggs before they freeze and crack. Out of 14 hens I was getting 11 or 12 eggs a day before the first cold spell hit in Dec. Egg production went down to 4 or 5 a day, but as we warmed up some we climbed back up to 8 or 9 a day. This time around with the cold even worse then Dec, I end up losing 2 or 3 of those 8 or 9 to freezing.

But they say next week we'll be in the 40s.
