You know all this talk about the latest Mars landing made me think of something.

We have this thread on Jupiter, and it's warming up.

Then they talk about Mars warming up.

And of course we have our own global warming.

So I was wondering what all three of these have in common.

Iowanics undies? No.
SUVs? No
Coal fired power plants? No.
Al Gore? No.
Polar Bears on a chunk of ice? No.

The sun? Yes.

Do any of you boffins know anything about gamma bursts from the sun ?

The three planets, with their minimum distance from the sun and the temperature range. Notice Jupiter is about 4 to 5 times farther from the sun and is still a bit warmer than the coldest range of Mars, and Earth both .... not from solar warming.

Jupiter 460 million miles -101 F (cloud top)

Mars 128 million miles -200 F to 32 F

Earth 91 million miles -128 F to 136 F

Jupiter's newest "blemish" used to be a white oval-shaped storm but turned brick red as its clouds rose and reacted to solar UV radiation. ..........

Another factor in all the planets and moons is gravitational changes. Tidal forces not only affect the fluid on the surface (ocean tides) but also the temperature of the molten core. We still do not understand nor are able to measure gravitational waves which change the actual size of everything (including measuring equipment) but is thought to account for a significant portion of the universe's background heat. We may be being bombarded with gravitational waves right now and not know it but may be heating up as a solar system because of it.

J; I haven't heard of gamma bursts from our sun. From outside the solar system, yes, but not from the local furnace. Gamma rays are preety powerful, I'd heard. Couldn't they plow all the way thru of atmosphere and do some damage down here?
